Hi,
check if you have installed the drivers for the cd drive.
check that the cable is well connected to the drive and also to the motherboard.
or else it ay be that you will need to change the drive and buy a new one.

I got the same probleme, too. I switch the UDD cable and the CD/DVD player cable, I realized that one of them didn't work. So, the probleme is with the motherboard. If you get a new mother board the problem is solved, otherwise, the computer will be used without reading the cd/dvd for ever.

This problem has really been frustrating me and my family for about a year. My DVD-ROM drive reads CD's fine, but cannot in any circumstance read a DVD or a DVD- ROM. I tried cleaning the drive with one of those DVD-ROM cleaners; it won't even read THAT. Please help; what do I do to fix my drive?

If u have a cd burner and a dvd burner one has to be a master and one a slave drive if u carefully take out your both burners there is a small pin in the back of each u will see it will say if the pin is in master or slave so if u put the pins in the write slot and plug back in leads from where u pulled them out it should work
