Obviously Steph ^^^ or whatever they are, has no idea what they're talking about.
Network card drivers have nothing to do with accessing other network card. a driver is so the OS and Hardware can communicate nothing to do with external information.
As far as I see it, It would be possible, however extremely difficult. and the only way I can see it happening, is if the Game developers of a multi platform game decide to dedicate their own servers and bandwidth to the project. The servers would have to do active trans-coding for data causing probable lag. unless during the game development the made the console itself trans-code the data before submitting it to the internet. into a form of protocol that both the PSN and XBL understand.

The only Problem I can see this having. Is higher PS3 sales and Lower 360 sales (more so to the extent its at now) due to the fact that PSN is a free service and XBL is subscribed. This would put Microsoft in a Position where they would have to either make XBL Gold Free, or make this particular game excluded from its XBL gold Restrictions.

Either Way This Would be a nice thing. i would like to be able to use My 360 and PS3 against each other then My mates would be able to use a seperate TV leaving me mine all to my own (:

hey thanks for the ideas guys but i think i can write a program that could read both psn and xbl and have it organised very well. i could write one in ps3 format and another in xbox format but it might take some time unless anybody out there can help me speed it up. that would be great.

cant see why it wouldnt work, take a PC and a mac. there are games where they connect on the same servers. D&D online stormreach is one of the games. i think its due to cost, playstation network is free but xbox gold account has to be paid for. both connect to main servers which use the same language (binary).

if they can get mac's, PC's and IBM computers to communicate across networks why not PS3 and xbox

It's not impossible, and Playstation and Xbox don't have to setup dedicated servers to connect with each other, but it is needed. If some were to set up a server that allows both xbox and playstation to be accessed it can be done, via using a computer. The original Xbox had that possibility. A dedicated Networking server was developed to allow xbox users without xbox live to play against each, all free to. Unfortunately I don't remember the name of that dedicated server, but u should google it. Someone might have already done server for 360 and PS3 compatibility. Ever heard of xbox connect. One step closer to getting PS3 and Xbox 360 together. There are also other programs available, like i said i don't remember the one i used to use

my cousins have xbox 360 and i have a ps3...although i did used to have a 360 but i couldn't get online,
my solution to that was because we had macs but at other points i thought it could of been the router.

so if an xbox somehow cant connect to mac/router then my conclusion would be that it would be on a different console they make?

i most certainley could be wrong =/

Then your PS3 would no longer be able to get online because it doesn't have drivers to access the xbox network card. It's only programmed to look for the ps3 network card - unless you write your own righteous hack to get it to do so. Not to mention they're "probably" both proprietary network cards and don't fit into standard pci slots so you "might" have to build a hardware adapter to get it to even attach to the ps3.

Even once you connect the card - the card doesn't have any brains... the card doesn't go looking for the network - the computer (or the ps3's processor) goes looking for the ps3 network.

Even if you did write your own drivers, inject them somehow into the code somehow and get the ps3 to try to connect to the xbox live network - now you have a completely different networking api protocol. The ps3 game was built to work on the ps3's live network. This takes a specific set of instructions to handle. So now you would have to code some network api emulation and hook that into your ps3 somehow. And even if you could do that - in all likelihood the games online play is optimized for how the play station3 network operates. The xbox live network could be completely different and you have all sorts of lags, drops, and rubber banding issues. If it even worked.

That's the long way of saying, don't even try it. It won't work.

Hey sorry to sort of hopefully point at the obvious but have any of you guys thought of screen capture? and as far as controllers being miles away you would only need an infared/blu tooth receiver to send the data along to the respective consoles so I am wondering what all this talk about moding the actual consoles is on about?
