Laptop to TV Sound does not play on VGAClosed

Question

Hello, 

I have used a VGA connection from my dell netbook to my tv.  I get the picture when I switch the TV settings to VGA, but the sound only comes through on the component tv setting.  Which is what I set my TV on for cable.  I have used my laptops head phone jack and the red and white cables to connect laptop sound to the tv.  How do I get sound on the vga setting?

Configuration: Windows XP / Safari 535.7
