Windows unable to format pen drive [Solved/Closed]

Hello,
I have 4 gb trancent pen drive when i open it windows give message pen drive is not formated and when i formate it
windows gives message "Windows unable to complete the formate"

dude u should have 2 use hp formatting tool u can download it from

pen drive (latter):j:
Open cmd.
start>run>cmd enter
cd/ enter
format j:/q enter
y enter successful.

hi, I followed the above told steps and it was successful without any errors but when i try to open the drive its saying, The file or directory is corrupted or unreadable.....would be great if you have any ideas to make it work?

@ Skd,

This is a link to the HP formatting tool - it might format your drive. Most likely your drive is DEAD.

right click on my computer->rclick on manage->click on disk management->then click on ur pendrive window->then right click->then choose format. it will work..

Write Protection removal
You can remove write protection from your usb flash drive using the below method:
a. Open start menu, in the search bar type regedit and press enter. This wil open the registry editor.
b. Navigate to the following path:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StorageDevicePolicies
Note:
If the registry key StorageDevicePolicies does not exist, you will need to create it manually.
c. Highlight StorageDevicePolicies, and then create a New DWORD (32-bit) Value named as WriteProtect.
d. Double click the key WriteProtect in the right window and set the value to 0 in the Value
Data Box and press OK button
e. Restart your computer and try copying files into your USB drives.

What i would say AND THIS DEFINETELY WORKS
Google a program called Hp format.i had the same problem with my pen drive and even mp3
I used to see all forums for the solution and didnt find anything
This was only my idea
and know i am glad i can show it to you
Just download hp format,install,and it will format and fix your pen drive

hey , i followed your steps like
in dos , i have written the device name
fromat i:/q
entered y
then it shows a msg like please use the /fs switch to specify the file system
you wish to use on this volume ......
but i dont know what to do.
help me?

format i: /q /fs:fat32

Hi try this,
Open cmd.
start>run>cmd and format your pen drive. or win-key+R.
for ex:
pen drive (latter):j:

C:\>format J:/q Enter .

or using unix operating system to format your pen drive (FAT32 File Type).

i have 32 gb pen drive.
every time i insert it into usb port a message shown format this drive.i am unable to format it.
i used dos command, windows commands all possible command i know but problem is still persists.
Kindly help me

my pen drive when inserted is not showing any data ,it asks for a format ,when tried its not formating ,i tried dos commond also it says, it is not recognized as an internal or external command,
is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. please try giving me a solution. thank u

hey i did the cmd u said but its saying that its a RAW file so do /fs
n when i did that its telling invalid cmd so plz tell wat can i do...
actually i had done bit locker from win 7////
after that its not working....

I tried it but it says Disk is write protected.. my USB is Transcend JF V30 4G.. can someone help me too please.... :(
