I have a HP Pavilion dv2000 laptop which is 3 yrs' old. From about about one year ago, it had dark screen when the screen was opened for over 90 degree. Very annoying. I read through the ideas from this forum. I tried the power-off, battery off re-start method, proved not effective. Then further I gently opened the screen frame by taking the 4 screws at the 4 corners of the screen, I found one piece of hair. I vacuum cleaned the screen frame and re-screwed back the screen frame. Guess what, the screen now works perfectly fine!!! I do not understand why a piece hair can make a screen dark when it was opened more than 90 degrees, maybe poked through the screen? or some sort of electrical field? I am not an IT professional, so you may try it yourself.
