My gateway is offfline

Hello,
Can someone PLEASE help me..not very comupter literate. I turned my laptop on yesterday morning, I have a wirless connection, it says CONNECTED, however msn, my widgets and internest are inaccessible...after troubleshooting, Iwas told my gateway is offline? what does this mean and how can I fix it?
