Hello
check in teh routers web interface page where you login to it - i.e. http://192.168.1.1 goes to my router here.. check to see whether the router shows the connection status items such as the SNR Margin, a low SNR margin is a common cause of ADSL disconecting and not re-syncing properly or simply not workign at all. IF this is below 6 db you can experience problems, I have this problem and get frequent drop outs because of my SNR margin of between 2.5 and 5 db when I sync above 5MBit.

I have the exact same problem. My Belkin router worked well for about a year. Now it keeps losing it's connection to the internet. My two computers (both wireless) are still networked (i.e. can share files and drives, etc) but there is no internet. When I log into the router's settings page it shows Internet: Not Connected. If I hard wire a computer to the cable modem the internet connection is there. Restarting the router doesn't help. I did a full re-install from the router's disk and it worked again for about a day then broke again. I did another full reinstall and it worked for a few days now it's out again.
It worked fine for over a year and now this!! Any advice? |
I have a Belkin router connected to a Cable modem. I have 1 computer hardwired to the router, and a PS3, laptop and another desktop on wireless.
Interet is fine, for a while, and then I loose connection. I am still connected to the router, and can log in to the router page, but I cannot access the net. If I run direct from the modem, the connection is there, but not through the router. This happens on all of the machines, especially the one hardwired in. Either pulling the plug, or rebooting the router allows access again. Frustrating as I game alot, and keep getting disconnects.

i have 2 computers and an xbox360, on the one computer i have a speedtouch router and the other one recieves the net through wireless. the xbox is wired. ive had the router for about 2 years, lately the router has been loosing connection for no reason which then means i cant play xbox live which gets annoying. when i restart the router it sometimes gets the connection back first time but on other occasions i have to restart it twice. i
can anyone help? |
I have lost internet connection off an on for the past year or so with my belkin wireless router. Usually I just reboot it and it's okay. Now, I can't get on at all, no matter how many times I try to reboot. I'm trying to update the firmware, but when I try to go to the router interface page, it's as if it doesn't exist. The page tells me the connection has timed out, the server is busy. Does this mean that I just have to buy a new router? |
Todd,
If you provide an e-mail addy, I'll send you my phone number. I have the same issues and have had a little luck. I think it's your ISP but they will never admit it. |
I too am having similar problems. I have a 4port linksys wireless router. Connected are 3 wired pc's, 2 wireless pc's and a wireless wii console. I have a cable ISP. Everything will be running along fine and then at random intervals when opening a website on any pc, i get "page cannot be displayed". When this happens i type 192.168.1.1 to access the router's setup page, same results... "page cannot be displayed". It doesn't just lose connection to one pc, it'a all of them. At this point i simply have to disconnect the router's power chord from the back of the router and plug it right back in. a couple seconds later everything is fine. I have contacted linksys support several times which is useless, they either try to pass the buck to my ISP or try to say that it's my fault due to the way i have my configuration setup. I know it's not my ISP because even when the internet service goes down, i should be able to access the other pc's through the LAN, or the router's setup page. As for the configuration i use, well, i have reset it to "factory default" and used their settings and it did the same thing. I have upgraded the firmware which was also once suggested, but it too served no purpose. I think I'm just going to throw this router in the garbage and buy a different brand of router unless someone else who has had the issue and resolved it can help me. Thanks all and good luck to those having the same or similar problems. |
Similar problems for me. I had a Netgear DG834G v2 - latest F/W and it kept disconnecting. About a year ago I swapped it for a Belkin N1 Wireless Modem-Router in the hope the problem would go away.
I thought the sityation had improved for a while but unfortunately it came back again. I noticed that the problem definitely happened when the router got hot so I purchased a laptop cooler and sat the router on that. So, now my router remains cool, but... unfortunately still the same issue. When it disconnects, my other PCs on my home network (4 directly connected and 2 wireless) can all see eachother still can't access the web (via any protocol). A couple of other things I have noticed. 1) The problem occurs most often in adverse weather conditions - wind, rain, heat and, in particular, storms. 2) Reboot always neally always fixes the issue. 3) ISP will blame the router and router manufacturer will blame the ISP. 4) I still have access to the router config page. My views... pure supposition.... 1) I am quite a distance from the exchange (1MB max on DSL over twisted pair) so I reckon the line is more subject to atmospheric conditions. I believe the wires are unshielded. 2) On power up the modem part of the router tests different "channels" on the line and settles on a maximum it can reliably send/receive on. This will determine your effective bandwidth. 3) During normal running the modem inside your router will detect and react to channel errors by stopping using that channel. Eventually "usable" channels will drop out until the router until the last channel gets dropped. 4) The modem doesn't recover from the last channel lost or retry older channels to see if they are now available. 5) Because the router isn't involved in this, the network continues to work fine. It is the built in modem that doesn't recover. What I need is an option (or utility on a PC) to auto reset the router when the connection to the internet is lost. |
For those getting booted off of their PS3 due to router issues. Go into NETWORK CONNECTIONS on your PS3, then go to the very last option at the bottom, it;s WINDOWS CONNECT or something like that. Can't remember off hand, just know its the last option. If it is enabled, you need to DISABLE it. That will stop the PS3 from looking for a cpu windows connection and locking up ur router. It worked for me and I have not been disconnected since Metal Gear first came out. One last note, be sure to turn off ur PS3 after u Disable it and reboot the modem and router before turning the PS3 back on.
Hope this helps.

THIS LINK HELPED ME:

This sounds like the problem I had with my Belkin. I recently brought an iMac and the connection would be fine for a couple of minutes, then go really slow or log off constantly. I found that disabling my Belkin Firewall (from the Belkin screen in the explorer) the problem was solved. |

hi unik1,,,first of all have you check the connections cables first dear?????the problem may be simple as that |
Found my problem!
It was actually the Dell Wireless WLAN Utility. I opened the utility and then unchecked the box "let this tool manage your wireless networks". Since it no longer manages my wireless, I used Windows to configure my WPA settings. No more disconnects. It is stable now. |
get a new router....
it just might work |

The best way to find an answer is to read everyone elses post before you ask a question. It is amazing how many questions are already answered when someone else continues to ask. I am not being a complete smart ass because it may not be the same answer for everyone but the last post about the ps3 address - you ahve already been answered - change the setting on your ps3 - your router is not the problem. I tried all of that for who knows how long once mine started kicking me off - turn off the media connection - read above - |
I've been researching this for a week now.
So much for doing my homework. :D But anyways, what I've read that you have to do is go into Linksys and change the MTU. Here's how to find that out: To find the proper MTU Size, you’ll have to do a special ping of the destination you’re trying to go to. A destination could be another computer, or a URL. 1. Click on the Start button, then select the Run option. 2. In the “Open” field type in command (If you’re using Windows 2K/NT/XP use CMD instead). 3. Once the window opens, you’ll need to do a special ping. It should be formatted: ping [url] [-f] [-l] [MTU value] [Enter] an example would be: pingyahoo.com –f –l 1472 <result = fragmented packet> ping yahoo.com –f –l 1462 <result = fragmented packet> ping yahoo.com –f –l 1452 <result = reply> You should always start at 1472 and work your way down by 10 each time. Once you get a reply, go up by 2 until you get a fragmented packet. Take that value and add 28 to the value to account for the various TCP/IP headers. For example, lets say that 1452 was the proper value, the actual MTU size would be 1480, which is the optimum for the network we’re working with. 4. Once you’ve found the optimum MTU size open up your browser, usually Internet Explorer, which is located on your desktop (Or on the Start menu in Windows XP). 5. Once Internet Explorer has opened input http://192.168.1.1/Filters.htminto the “Address” bar. 6. You will be prompted for a User Name and Password. Leave the User Name blank and input admin as the password then click OK. 7. Once you’ve done this you should find your self on the Filters tab. Scroll down to the bottom and look for “MTU”. Enable the option and input the optimum value you got earlier. So for our example this would be 1480. After that value has been inputted click Apply then Continue and you’re done. --------- I've heard for many this has worked, I tried this, didn't work for me. I have a Linksys 4-Port wireless router, which is about two years old. Firmware is up to date. My main computer is a Vista- Home Premium [LAN connected]. Then I have three other computers that connect wirelessly; two laptops and a desktop. When the second desktop is connected and surfing on the internet, my main get's kicked out every few minutes or so. So it's most likely a computer problem. When one of the laptops are connected, this doesn't happen. Sad thing is, I don't know how to fix this, and I need two computers on at least. If the main is connected alone, it works fine. I've heard that maybe private IPs work. Static IP's and so on. The deal with Static IPs is that you run the risk of a network conflict and no one wants that. Any ideas why this is happening to so many people and no help? Calling Linksys and the ISP does NOT help whatsoever.

I have a solution for alot of people:::
I recently changed from Cable internet to DSL and installed the 2wire 2701HG-B router that came in the box from AT&T. Everything worked fine except I could not connect to certain websites like myspace, hotmail, windows update. I discovered that I had used a connection optimizer software that had changed my MTU speed to 1500 from the default 1492. Once I went into the routers setup page and changed that number back to 1492 from 1500 everything worked perfectly and no more problems. Hope this helps anyone GamerDaD
