Extremely slow internet

Hello,


hi all! i'm having some troubles with my internet connection. it is incredibly slow. it's bell sympatico extreme. i think my dad pays over $60 a month for it, and it should be fast. it used to be fast.

right now, i gotta pause and wait like 15 or 20 minutes for a 8 minute video on youtube to load, and it took like 20 seconds just to load up computing.net.

i've reset the modem and router, reset the computer, disk clean, etc. it's not the computer. every computer is doing this. i ipconfig in the command prompt, and release and renew. i pinged google and i'm losing a packet each time, and average response is 25ms.

Just an update, i went to speakeasy.com, and i took the test from the nearest server, here's the results:
Download Speed: 2931 kbps (366.4 KB/sec)
Upload Speed: 673 kbps (84.1 KB/sec)

hmm I have a similar problem, but its more like:
I have 2 partitions, each with XP installed. On the 1st one, downloading is like 30 kb/s, even on 2 mb files. :?:
On the 2nd one, its like 200 kb/s consistently.
This is really annoying me.

I have the Aspire One 120gb XP version laptop as well, when I am using battery power the internet is very slow, when I plug it in its fine. I played around with the power management to see if that would help, I also reinstalled XP but I have the same problem! Please help!!! Thanks, Tamas

I had the same problem.... turns out there's a power saving option on the wireless adapter that is turned to maximum by default. To turn it off, right click my computer > properties > hardware tab > device manager... then find your wireless adapter in the list under Network Adapters, right click > properties > advanced tab. Select Power Save Mode from the list on the left and select Off from the drop down on the right. Press OK and close device manager.

I haven't seen what this does to battery life yet... so don't blame me :)

Thanks for the fix. I bought an Aspire One a few days ago and was so frustrated with the internet speed, I was ready to return it. This made all the difference in the world.

Yep, this fixed a huge source of frustration, thanks. I tried setting Power Save Mode to "normal" and the throughput speeds are still very fast. I can't believe Acer would ship these things with the WiFi driver crippled by default.

I haven't seen any major affect on battery life... I'm guessing they shipped it this way to tout battery life as high as possible... seems to be a big selling point with NetBooks. Definitely something to change if you buy an Aspire One.
