Hello, my laptop hangs often. I had updated my bios version.can it be coz of that? earlier I have also faced the problem of failure to open windows. this problem was solved after formatting. is it possible that my new problem is related to the old one? I will be really grateful if u can provide me a solution to my problem.

Hello Priscilla,

That good ol Dell Customer support...oh boy.

I don't know what you use your computer for but you are eating a lot of RAM. If you have only 254 mb ram free, it's surely not enough. Nowadays, a computer which goes on the Internet, plays games, etc. should have a minimum of 1gb RAM; otherwise it will hang.

You may also have a virus which munches away ram like a termite.

To help you further, I must make a diagnostic and to do so, I require a log.

Open this link and download ZHPDiag :

https://www.zebulon.fr/telechargements/securite/systeme/zhpdiag.html

Register the file on your Desktop.

Double click on ZHPDiag.exe and follow the instructions.

the tool created two icons ZHPDiag and ZHPFix (we will use ZHPFix at the next step).

Double click on the short cut ZHPDiag on your Destktop.

Click on the Magnifying glass and run the analysys.

Wait for the tool to finished (maybe a long time)

Close ZHPDiag.

To transmit the report, click on this link :

https://authentification.site

Click on Parcourir and search the directory where you installed ZHPDiag (usually C:\Program Files\ZHPDiag).

Select the file ZHPDiag.txt.

Click on "upload »

Copy the url and post it here

yes..i'm noticing that it hangs when I used it continously for an hour or so and when the sound of the fan comes with emission of warm air with more speed. will a change of hard drive help? please offer me your suggestion.

No a change of drive will not help to stop the hanging.

Please send me the ZHP Diag report. Following the study of the report, I will be able to tell you if it's a hardware problem.

I suggest that we do things systematically, step by step, rather than guess.

Hello to you both,

Let me throw my two cents if I may.

Priscilla, I always had and still have the same problem as you. As soon as I started my laptop, when I run applications that required great resources, my laptop automatically hangs and I had to restart it.

I found that this problem was due to an update of Windows that I found and removed, but some time later, the problem persisted, that's when I knew it was a disk problem.

I kicked Windows and installed Ubuntu (Linux) and then the system works properly because Ubuntu uses little resource of disk and RAM.

But there are some essential software that I would like to use on Windows like Dreamweaver and Photoshop and the only way is to change the disk and reinstall Windows.

In short, follow the instructions from Dell and change your hard drive to get rid of this problem.

Best Regards!

Dear Bionik,

Let me throw your two cents into a wishing well. You have come to a hasty conclusion. Let me make the diagnostic and last we will see if a new drive is necessary.

Hello Priscella,

You basic information shows:

Processor: Intel64 Family 6 Model 37 Stepping 5, GenuineIntel
Operating System: 64 Bits
Boot mode: Normal (Normal boot)
Total RAM: 2932.5 MB (56% free)
System Restore: Activé (Enable) => Microsoft Windows System Restore Points
System drive C: has 72 GB (72%) free of 100 GB

Looks like quite sufficient but a lot of processes are taking way too much resources, they should be stopped:

You will also gain some power by running this free tool to stop useless applications from running at boot time:

https://www.malwarebytes.com/mwb-download/

Clean your registry with this free but efficient tool:

https://ccm.net/download/download-13339-eusing-free-registry-cleaner

I also suggest that you defragment your disk

Following the above mentioned steps I'm sure that you will not see the need for purchasing a new HD.

Let me know

P.S. I now have writer's cramp from typing all this.

hello, I have changed my hard drive as Dell sent a technician along with the new drive to my place. I thought I should give it a try so agreed with the change. but the problem still persist i.e.my laptop still hangs when the fan becomes louder than normal and warm air comes with more speed. yesterday this happened and I waited for about 20mins to see if the fan stops but it did not. and again I had to press the power button for some mins to put off my laptop.

Regards..

Greetings,

1. A fan on a laptop must continuously run to avoid over heating.

2. A harddrive has no relation with the fan or turning off a laptop, the motherboard has.

3. Have you explained the problem to the Dell technician? And what did he say?

4. Did the technician test your laptop after he changed the harddrive?

5. I gave you all the basic help possible which you seemed to have choosen to bypass.

6. Last, I now suggest that you call back Dell to have your motherboard checked for possible circuit problems especially if your laptop is still under warranty.

7. Dell has put many lemon laptops on the market.

Good luck

That's great Priscilla!

You may as well take advantage of it while your machine is still under warranty. Since Dell was prompt it offering it to you, I suspect that they had several similar issues with other same model laptops.

I'm sure it will solve the problem.

Thank you very much for letting me know.
