Well, to this problem you'd better turn to some third party software. my pc crashed last month and i restalled os and itunes. cause new itunes will empty my ipod touch (3.1.2) so i downloaded trial version of an ipod transfer program on net. it's great and it worked fast. if you need some help and some worth-trying tools, i think that website will help you a lot.
