Removing a static IP address

I am trying to switch from Verizon DSL to Comcast Cable modem and the Verizon IP address is conflicting with Comcast. I have been told by Comcast that they will not be able to set up a home network using an Ethernet connection until I am able to get rid of the Verizon ID adress. Verizon is of no help since I discontinued their services. How do I remove the IP address?
Thanks in advance.
PS: My OS is Vista.
Configuration: Windows XP Internet Explorer 6.0 Vista
I have comcast myself and they assign DHCP address' so if you had a static address with Verizon you need to goto your internet options and select automaticly assign so your computer won't kep trying to connect to the static IP address. If that doesn't work remove all your network connections then add one back Via the network setup wizzard and select automaticly configure that way and you might need to reset your modem just unplug it for like 20-30 seconds if it has a battery backup then you need to push the little reset button on the bac in is recessed inside a little hole below the Ethernet plug. That should do it.
