Hello,

I have an ADSL connections. I have a GLB-502T D-Link modem/router. It works fine with the desktop only plugged to the Ethernet. Now I want to have a wireless LAN setup at home. Which is why i connected the DI-514 wirreless router to the ethernet port of the modem/router and the desktop to one of the five ethernet ports. The desktop worked fine on the first go but i cannot connect the laptop. The connection is made and drops in about 30 secs or so saying The host did not respond to the DHCP request made. If i repair this which menas the lappy will again do a request the lappy connects again but gives the same err in about the same time .

Please Help
Configuration: Windows XP
Internet Explorer 6.0

Hai

Looking at the scenario you outlined above, the issue is you are not recieving an IP Address through through from the modem, which means the issue is with (as you assumed) the modem and wireless router.

Firstly can you check that your wireless card is not using a static IP Address by default they do not. If you have not changed this in the past we can assume this stage is ok.

Next if you connect your GLB-502T D-Link using a straight through (standard) ethernet cable to any of the LAN ports (I would choose port 1 in this case) on your DI-514 not the WAN (internet) port.

(Test at this stage)

Secondly should this not work as desired, disable any DHCP servers on the DI-514 (wired and wireless), and ensure that the DI-514 is recieving a DHCP lease (an IP Address) from the GLB-502T.

Try connecting to the wireless router and seeing if you now recieve a DHCP allocated IP.
