COMPAQ PRESRIO C700, installed windows XP and installed sound driver but it's not working. Pls help me what can i do

Check the device manager to see if there is a conflict on the hardware.

Device manager can be opened by going to the System Properties icon in the Control panel or the shortcut key: Windows Key + Pause/Break.
Goto the tab Hardware, then to Device manager.
The category you'll need to expand is the Sound, Video and Game Controllers group.
