Here are the directions I followed to install the Adobe Camera Raw Plug-In 4.1.1:
To install with Adobe Creative Suite 3 or Photoshop CS3:
1. Exit Photoshop CS3.
2. Open My Computer.
3. Double-click Local Disk (C:).
4. Navigate to: c:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CS3\File Formats
5. Move the existing Camera Raw.8bi plug-in to another location (for example, a new folder on your desktop). Ensure you keep this version in case you need to revert back.
6. Copy the Camera Raw plug-in, Camera Raw.8bi, from the download into the same folder as in step 4.
7. Launch Photoshop CS3 or Adobe Bridge.
Note: If generic camera thumbnails appear in Adobe Bridge, follow these steps:
1. Check to make sure the plug-in was installed in the correct directory in step 4 above.
2. Start Bridge.
3. Choose Tools > Cache > Purge Central Cache.
OK. Now, I can open the .CR2 Raw files in Adobe Photoshop CS3. | 4 nikon-D3, on Mar 8, 2009 2:58:26 am GMTI couldnt open any RAW files in cs3, i followed your steps and it worked PERFECT, legend thanks man, ;-p |

| 13 Maxnm, on May 21, 2009 6:35:25 pm BSTEach new camera model needs to have a new version of the Camera Raw. 8bi file. I understand the upgrade for the Canon 5D Mark II did exist for a while, then Adobe made the upgrade to CS4 and took it off their downloads. Does anyone have the version of Camera Raw. 8bi that works for the 5D in CS3? Thanks xpcman, your solution would work fine if I can find the right version. | 16 anniesu, on Jul 6, 2009 5:57:13 pm BSTYes I have not been able to find the 8.1.1 download either, did you get it? I can convert using the DNG converter but it is another step and I need to be able to see the raw image files as I go, so it is quite inconvenient to do this and also takes up so much more room (I am using the Canon5D MarkII). thanks!
Also the directions above are for a PC, not a MAC? My plugins are in a different place... |
| 37 buff, on Oct 16, 2009 3:03:12 pm BSTI have the same problem with EOS D5 mark II - working Photoshop CS3 on Imac
Did you get a plugin that worked.
I see on adobe's site that i need the converter in version 5.2 for the camera, but CS 3 only supports converter 4.6
I'll be happy if you could help me |

| 15 Scotsman, on Jun 26, 2009 3:34:18 pm BSTHello,
I am following your instructions on this post until I get to No. 5 : 'Move the existing Camera Raw.8bi plug-in to another location'.
However, there are 18 different plug-ins there and all end in .8BI but none of them is called 'Camera Raw.8bi'
or similar. Which one would it be? Or is it all of them?
Thanks,

| 23 ricky, on Aug 18, 2009 9:02:11 pm BSTI've tried the fix suggested REPEATEDLY without success. Most frustrating. PROBLEM: the CR2 (raw) files created with my Canon30D can be viewed first in Bridge, then saved as jpg files ; however, my CR2 (raw) files created with my CanonMarkII cannot be viewed in Bridge, nor opened in PS3. WHAT'S THE DEAL? PLEASE HELP - at the end of my rope. Thanks! |
