Download Adobe Camera Raw Plug-In 4.1.1

Here are the directions I followed to install the Adobe Camera Raw Plug-In 4.1.1:

To install with Adobe Creative Suite 3 or Photoshop CS3:
1. Exit Photoshop CS3.
2. Open My Computer.
3. Double-click Local Disk (C:).
4. Navigate to: c:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CS3\File Formats
5. Move the existing Camera Raw.8bi plug-in to another location (for example, a new folder on your desktop). Ensure you keep this version in case you need to revert back.
6. Copy the Camera Raw plug-in, Camera Raw.8bi, from the download into the same folder as in step 4.
7. Launch Photoshop CS3 or Adobe Bridge.

Note: If generic camera thumbnails appear in Adobe Bridge, follow these steps:

1. Check to make sure the plug-in was installed in the correct directory in step 4 above.
2. Start Bridge.
3. Choose Tools > Cache > Purge Central Cache.

OK. Now, I can open the .CR2 Raw files in Adobe Photoshop CS3.

Each new camera model needs to have a new version of the Camera Raw. 8bi file. I understand the upgrade for the Canon 5D Mark II did exist for a while, then Adobe made the upgrade to CS4 and took it off their downloads. Does anyone have the version of Camera Raw. 8bi that works for the 5D in CS3? Thanks xpcman, your solution would work fine if I can find the right version.

Yes I have not been able to find the 8.1.1 download either, did you get it? I can convert using the DNG converter but it is another step and I need to be able to see the raw image files as I go, so it is quite inconvenient to do this and also takes up so much more room (I am using the Canon5D MarkII). thanks!
Also the directions above are for a PC, not a MAC? My plugins are in a different place...

I have the same problem with EOS D5 mark II - working Photoshop CS3 on Imac

Did you get a plugin that worked.

I see on adobe's site that i need the converter in version 5.2 for the camera, but CS 3 only supports converter 4.6

I'll be happy if you could help me

Hello,

I am following your instructions on this post until I get to No. 5 : 'Move the existing Camera Raw.8bi plug-in to another location'.

However, there are 18 different plug-ins there and all end in .8BI but none of them is called 'Camera Raw.8bi'
or similar. Which one would it be? Or is it all of them?

Thanks,

Scotsman

I've tried the fix suggested REPEATEDLY without success. Most frustrating. PROBLEM: the CR2 (raw) files created with my Canon30D can be viewed first in Bridge, then saved as jpg files ; however, my CR2 (raw) files created with my CanonMarkII cannot be viewed in Bridge, nor opened in PS3. WHAT'S THE DEAL? PLEASE HELP - at the end of my rope. Thanks!

I followed all the steps and made sure that the plug-in is copied in the right folder
and when i lauch adobe bridge and go to :
Tools > Cache > i get 2 options : build cache for subfolders and build cache for folder "desktop" !

theres not "Purge Central Cache" and i still can't open CR2 raw files

scribble1, on Feb 18, 2009 1:12:02 pm GMT

Try copying your Camera Raw.8bi fille into the program files/adobe/bridge/plugins folder. I had the same problem with .NEF file and that fixed it for me.

Almost every forum i've looked on, has had the same stuff... here's something that i used, and it worked! I've been working on the same problem for a few days (using CS2).

go here... http://www.adobe.com/products/dng/license.html and select the the OS youre running on the right

the link provided below is an explination/directions for the fix. It's called Adobe DNG converter. Different brands of cameras hold a different RAW format. The DNG converter will convert all RAW files to Adobe's Default RAW format (.dng).

http://www.nyip.com/ezine/digital/adobedng.html

When i used this, i went from 15 MB files to 26 MB. it's larger, but the link above will explain why, it works!

I'm NOT a super technical person and getting very stressed as I have so much work to do......have I got to upgrade my photoshop?

Thank you so much, the info at the top of the page work perfectly for me. :) Solved a very troubling problem. All of Adobe's featured downloads are for newer versions now, so I had a little bit of trouble finding the version for cs3, I found that the easiest way to find it was to simply Google "camera raw for cs3" and then look for the one from Adobe. Thanks for all of the help!

Thanks very much for the advice xpcman. It worked perfectly. However, there is one problem - i have the generic thumbnail issue and the option for 'purge central cache' is disabled (greyed out). I have googled and havent found another solution for this problem. Does anyone know another solution since I cant purge the central cache?

Thanks in advance.

I cannot find the folder C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CS3\File Formats.

I installed the Adobe suite to my D drive but cannot find it in D as well.

The only folder I get in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe is SavedFonts. I tried creating the rest (Plug-Ins>CS3>File Formats) but it still doesn't work. Any ideas?

I couldn't find Adobe Camera Raw Plug-In 4.1.1, only got Camera Raw 5.5.
I followed your steps but I didn't see any "Camera Raw.8bi" in File Formats so I added the new "Camera Raw.8bi" I downloaded in to it. Then I still cannot open CRW files (I have Canon S5IS and use CHDK to take RAW). Please help. Thanks so much ^_^

Ok...

im running a macbook -

i have installed the 4.6 raw plugin into both the application folders in both Photoshop and Bridge

my problem started when everytime I closed bridge is said "optimizing cache" - So i purged my cache to releave the ammount of space i was using -

ever since i purged I cannot preview raw files in bridge - this is a huge problem for my work flow -

I have downloaded the 4.6 raw update and since - replaced the the raw plug in the both the ps and bridge folders - and i have purged my cache and reset my bridge back to original settings by holding - cntrl, alt, shift and clicking the bridge icon to reset back to factory settings - still NOTHING ? :(

I really need to get this working again BAD

I will offer someone a reward or some kind if you can nail down the problem ! please help!
