Hi,

The issue is related to the display chip on the motherboard. Its a well known problem in this series.

If the problem occurs too frequently the solution will be to replace the motherboard.

Replacing the motherboard doesnt resolve the issue.. it is a design flaw.

The solution is not to replace the motherboard, because the problems is within the built in graphic card and chiset the nvidia 6150 GO

I've made a post on my blog about this whole issue

Do not waste moeny to repair the laptop. Let us fight on HP / sue them.

OK I am wih you. After speaking to someone in another country at Hp they told me they have never of such an issue. I instructed them to use whatever search engines they chose and search for tx 1000 heat and turning on issues. To his credit he did. Unfortunatly he said I dont see many, i told him they were blogs on countless issues. Apparently iys my fault for not taking the extended warrenty. If I had known it had been built by Mickey Mouse I may have considered taking it. Surly if omeone builds anything that does not work they owe it to the consumer to fix it. I am all for suing or making something happen. I was upset when i found out what it was, i was angry when I realized how many other people have the same issue. Now i am pissed by what I was told and how I was handled by HP.

I too have the same issue with the laptop.
I have a hp 1000x tablet pc and after using it for a month the system showed blank screen when starting and after fighting with the HP they fixed it. Still after this i have countless issues with laptop as runnig slow, hannig up, freezes in middle of work and i did recovery many times.

After a few months the wifi adapter is not working and they send me a new adapter again after fighting with them( luckily im under warrent) and now again in this march it stooped working. Im not under warrenty now and have to spend 100 $ buying a new USb wifi booster. exactly after 20 days now the system is showing blank screen after switching it ON.

I have no clue wat to do with this HP piece.

Intially i thought that i made a mistake by buying this piece of junk but now I realized I commited a blunder.

If someone is planig for any action on HP, i will be with u guys.

I am from Makati, Philippines.

Problem description:

1. HP TX1000 still booting and Windows still loading, but after sometime, there's too much heat underneath that I think causes the tablet to hang and eventually dies.

2. When I tried pressing the right side of the keyboard (where I think the video card is placed) then it'll continue running and I can actually use it for the whole day. I think there's a loose connection inside which you just mentioned, that has something to do with the video card or whatever. This is really getting us all upset!!! My hands are in pain. My work got so affected.

We bought this HP tablet, because they look so cool and nice. We all thought that the mobility is there because of its promises. BUT WHAT NOW, WE SHOULD ALL COMPLAIN AS ONE, GLOBALLY.

OUR MONEY WAS WASTED. INDEED.

WE SHOULD ALL TAKE THIS PROBLEM SERIOUSLY. THERE MIGHT BE SOME THAT FOR NOW IS NOT EXPERIENCING THIS NIGHTMARE. BUT EVENTUALLY FOR SURE THEY WILL HAVE THE SAME THING.

THIS IS A TOTAL NIGHTMARE.

HP!!!! DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS. WE WANT OUR MONEY BACK!!! PROVE US YOUR WORTH!!!

I turn off it and I turn on it some 30 times, and suddenly the logo appeared of HP and started normally the system
But, I forgot to connect the fan and was heated a lot, but a lot of
I tuned off It and I connected the fan, can be seen for the cover of the memory
Then leave it to cold like an hour and since there has functioned well

Hola diablo pues sí me funcionó eso de darle un calentón a la Tablet... segun leí en otro foro hay que modificar el disipador del chip de video con una pieza de cobre o moneda de a centavo para que no vuelva a fallar... eso espero.

hi Diablo, your advice regarding heating the machine on purpose worked for me... According to another forum, it is advisable to mod the GPU heatsink with a piece of copper or a cent coin to ensure it won't go down again... I hope so.

It's possible overheating the laptop could be a solution for the problem, I had the bad choice buying a TX1230 and an xbox 360 console, both with similar problem. Xbox had red rings of death problem due to video chipset overheating and one solution that worked for me was turning it on for 15 minutes under sheets to apply extra heat to it. I will test today something like this on my tx1230 an I'll be telling people here if it works.

Now I understand that is a chipset problem.
So... how can I solve it? Can I CHange the chipset?

Hi everybody,

I've been having problems with my laptop booting up to a black screen as well for months. I just installed Windows 7 today from Microsoft here:
http://profile.microsoft.com/...

Now everything seems to be booting up well which is a huge surprise since I was about to sell this piece of junk!. I think the problem is a combination bad hardware, software drivers incompatibility, and Windows Vista just plain sucks. Anyways so far so good, I will continue testing with Windows 7 RC with my HP TX1000 notebook laptop.

Hi Yoda,
I too have been trying the Win 7 RC on my tx1000. But there seems to be a problem with my video driver. I have been searching the nvidia driver site for a win 7 driver for Geforce Go 6150 but couldn't come up with a notebook version. Is your graphics working properly?
Waiting for your reply...

I have had my Hp tx 1000 for over 2 years and it started giving me problems back in November. Last night I was the next lucky person to come across the same problem as you all. My computer was working fine. I went to restart it and when I turned it on my screen was black. I have tried several suggestions I have found on different forums and none have worked. I like raizen would like to try this overheating technique...how do I do that? Thanks!

i had bought d TX 1000 nearly 2 yrs ago. its facing d same problem now. I had the NVDIA chip replaced however the problem still persists ... i don't know what the problem is, but considering the price of the laptop, its harsh on the wallet to get a new one when you know the tablet doesnt go for mor ethan 40% of d original price.

Okay after Reading about the Problem with the NVidia and seeing that some had luck placing the laptop under a blanket. I decided to try the over heat solution my self with a hair dryer I heated up the Corner of the unit where the fan is. Being careful not to get the surface of the plastic too hot. i keep turning the unit on and off and about two minutes in the laptop turned on just fine.

P.S. This is not a joke. this is a true story.

Yes to Solution all along was a hair dryer.

I am really amazed. I was actually just about ready to junk my piece of crap Hp Tx1000 laptop. I thought I would look on the internet to see if I could find a replacement motherboard and starting to continue to search and found your posting on this forum. When I first read how you fixed yours, I thought you have to be kidding me, a hair dryer would fix this problem. So I went and tried you solution and it actually worked. My question is to you is your computer still running? Is this just a temporary fix?

Thanks for posting

My TX 1000 started booting to blank screen (a month ago) but stats somehow after 50 tries (I mean literally!). In addition it has additional problems which I suspect could be related to crappy hardware
1. The wifi card is not detected. This started 3 months ago. But somehow it has not occurred for the past 2 weeks. I am keeping my fingers crossed
2. A few days ago my laptop started overheating problems. The screen freezes suddenly and nothing will work and the only option is to restart it. I checked the temperatures of the GPU temperature using a diagnostic software which is around 85C when idle and shoots to 120C while watching a video or running multiple applications. Also, the CPU runs at 64 (idle) and 95 (while running applications). Is this normal?? Does anyone face similar overheating problems??

Never Again HP, on Jul 23, 2009 7:57:58 am BST

I was skeptical this would work...but gave it a try anyway since I was desperate, and it WORKED! For other who try this, note that it did not start up on the first try after heating it with the hairdryer. For me, I had to power it down and then back up again to get it to boot up. So use the hairdryer for a couple mins, then turn it on. If no luck, keep powering down and up until it starts. Don't assume the trick failed if it doesn't power up right away!

Thooody, on Jul 24, 2009 9:47:22 am BST

Hi I'm following this thread because this seem to be a problem with several models of HP laptops. My Pavilion dv2030ea have the "not boot /black screen" problem as I have seen many other models also have. Turning the computer on and off several times will eventaly make my computer boot correctly but almost never when running on strictly battery. So the Hair dryer solution seems like more of a coincidence then an actual solution. Might be that a amount of heat is whats needed for the chipset to work but there is still a design fault from HP. The general thing about HP laptops is an overheating problem and this has fried two harddrives for me so heating things up can result in other problems.

Do not get a new motherboard the issue is with the tx1000 series! They over heat the GPU which results in the need for a replacement motherboard. HP will do this for £265 (US$400) but it only repeats the problem. I have had 3 motherboards others even more and we just end up with the same problem recurring.

HP refuse to recall the product and claim it effects less than 1% of TX1000's but a quick investigations shows this to be many hundreds, probably thousands.

Wrap your laptop into a blanket and turn on
wait until it overheated and turn off by itself
wait to cool a bit
turn back on
I use the trick from other forum and it worked for me
