How to do format with recovery CD?

I want to do a format with recovery CD but I don't know how

I have the recover CD in my laptop but I don't know how I can use it .
my laptop is Hp pavilion dv6700 with windows vista home premium .

pleas help me with details

about all thing I need to do to format my laptop by the recovery CD

You can't possibly format your laptop with a recovery cd.
Because the recovery CD reinstalls everything completely. This is an automatic process but you must make your laptop boot from the Recovery CD. You need to change the boot sequence in the BIOS. Then save your changes and exit. The laptop will reboot. Insert your CD quickly so that it can find its presence for it to boot from CD. Then follow the instructions on screen. That's all.
