Hp laptop can read DVD but not CD

Hi guys,
i have a hpcompaq presario C700 running vista home basic.I was able to read my DVDs but not cds.This problem arose after I installed Vmware server in my laptop ,which prompted to turn off the autorun of CD during installation which I did .I tried to install drivers for my DVD writer ,restored system with restore points, checked the device manager ,registry .everything was perfect.pls anyone tell me how to solve this problem

Configuration: DVD writer
Windows Vista
Internet Explorer 7.0

Hi,
if a system restore did not solved the problem then it might be that the lense of the driver has got a problem.
get it repaired or but another one. you may also try to clean it using a lense cleaner.
