Hello,

My wife downloaded Google Chrome because apparently youtube told her to. As soon as the download completed a massive virus started popping up and shut down my computer. Now when we turn it on it shows a big blinking "WARNING" in the background, control alt delete has been disabled, and when it gets fully booted up it just shuts down again. I tried turning on the computer in safe mode and it tried but went back to the safe mode screen over and over again.

I'm moderately good with computers but this one is out of my league, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Configuration: Googlebot 2.1

Have you tried logging onto explorer or Firefox instead?

Also how about uninstalling Chrome and re-setting your computer to before you had it ?

Also try seeing if your virus software has a phone/ remote support help person. My norton did and it was free and saved me so much hassle when I got one.

Good luck!

I seriously doubt that Google Chrome put a virus on your computer after it installed. You said that your wife was told to download it because she seen a YouTube video? It could be that it was a fake YouTube site and it told her to "click here" to download Google Chrome, when in fact it was a virus-infected copy of Google Chrome. There is a Facebook virus going around which is similar. CNN's Errol Barnett looks into a new worm infecting users of Facebook and other social networking sites, such as YouTube. Go to http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/us/2009/03/02/barnett.facebook.worm.cnn to see the full video.

Its real. Google Chrome is doubted to have a virus.
And because of this, i had to reinstall windows twice.
I exactly had the same problem as fooster.
I downloaded chrome from dl.google.com as quoted by internet explorer.
But now, I am browsing the net with firefox after becoming aware of this issue.
It seems to be exploited by some hackers.

After way many bugs/trojan attacks in Internet Explorer I was advised to use Firefox.
Did work for some years....then tried CHrome, In 1 week time Mc Affee was warning me. Founda trojan nested in the Chrome Dir. After that I ran a full virus scan but nothing unusual showed up. Thought I was clear but when relogging I got pop ups every 5 mins warning me about an Internet Explorer error.

Havent used IE for years so that notice is a bad thing.
It took me 3 times Hitman to go away...
Yay for google but plz dont try to make a browser.

I'm also using Chrome, however I got mine from the actual Google site (the one with the big search bar in the middle).

Also, judging by the fact that this guy's computer won't start up, I don't think he can simply swicth to another browser.

Call in an actual computer expert for this mate. sounds to me like you might need a new computer.

The best Spyware software is "Spyware Doctor" and you can download from Jordysoft.net.

Here is the link to the download page http://www.jordysoft.net

Slave the hdd to another PC with a decent antivirus installed and do a full sweep of the harddrive.

I'm sorry for my criticism on Chrome in the previous post.
My mistake was that I reinstalled windows, but didn't scan for viruses in other drives.
So the virus took over again and again.
The problem is not with chrome but with the antivirus I was using.
I feel that AVG free version does a great job in managing viruses.

Think of this: Even if Chrome tries to get viruses, it is the duty of your antivirus to stop it. If you get viruses like me again and again, Scan the hard drive in any other computer and then install windows.
If that doesn't suffice, get a internet security instead of antivirus.

Run command promt type in FDISK, that formats your computer, then install something like xp or seven or a linux os

I got the same.

Chrome installed itself in a un-obviously manner, I mean I did not plan to install it but was told to do it, the next day I had to re-install from scratch my computer. A computer that was runing without problem for the last 4 years.

I don't know what kind of open doors chrome installed but an advise, stay away from that intrusive and immature (mal)software.

I also had the same problem.
Google Chrome is being used by Billions of people in the world. How can we blame Chrome for getting viruses.

If your computer gets affected by viruses, It is a best idea to reinstall windows.

After you reinstall, It is very important that you perform the following steps:

1. Install a powerful antivirus (I recommend Avast at www.avast.com)
2. Run a full virus scan with all your drives (This is very very important)
3. If you need a firewall get Outpost firewall free
