Ive got a iMac USB problem

Tracynet, on Sunday April 27, 2008 04:12:36 PM
When I disconnect my USB from the computer, I always get a warning that I may have deleted or ruined by photos. How can I disconnect a live USB connection without getting that message? I use one of those Smart Media card readers, and there's no on-off switch. c.i
Configuration: Windows XP
Internet Explorer 6.0

Try turning off the computer. Other than that I'm not sure. I don't have the hardware and software in front of me so am unable to give a more informed answer

I believe the point of the message is to not disconnect a "live" connection at all.

BTW are you talking about a digital camera? Try turning off the computer. Other than that I'm not sure. I don't have the hardware and software in front of me so am unable to give a more informed answer.

When you connect a camera card via Card Reader to a USB port on your iMac, a disk image should show on the computer desktop. It (should) show as a small white rectangle, with the name Untitled beneath it. iPhoto usually opens automatically so you can edit or otherwise deal with the photos on the camera card.

When you've finished editing/viewing your photos, quit iPhoto. Next, drag that Untitled (it may have a name) disk image to the Trash which will change its appearance to an upward arrow with a block beneath it (the symbol for Disk Eject). This procedure will unmount the camera card correctly from the iMac and you should not get the warning message.

Another way to unmount a disk image is to R-click the image and then L-click Eject xxxxx.

One other thing - the MacOS is a bit precious about releasing items mounted via USB so count to ten before pulling the USB connection from your iMac.
