Windows failed to start

robot.2008, on Saturday 26 April 2008 à 11:57:02
Hello,

I just tried to carry out a system restore on my laptop and when I came to power the machine back on I was confronted with the message "windows failed to start. A recent hardwareor software change might be the cause". then further down the page it states

File: CLFS.SYS
Status: 0xc000000d
Info: windows failed to load because a required file is missing, or corrupt.

I have tried starting in safe mode and starting with last known good configuration but have had no look.

I also do not have the windows installation disk as it is a laptop that belongs to my work.

Any ideas about what I should do?

thanks
Configuration: Windows XP
Internet Explorer 6.0

Hai

I had that happen to me before. Did you reinstall the drivers after formatting the hard drive? Try that. Format the hard drive, install the drivers, and then re-install vista agian.

Have you tired to repair it? Do you have a Vista CD or is it a system restorer CD?

If it's a Vista CD put it in when you restart your pc and hit repair, it will scann what files is missing and correct the problems if it finds any. You may have to do this process twice if it doesn't find anything the first time around like it says.

yeah, i tried to perform a system restore with the disks that i got from office depot for my vaio. i thought i had all of them, but i guess my dad tossed them when he was cleaning his desk (>.<) so now when i turn on my computer all it says is "no operating system detected" and i tried to install XP on it, because i have the disk but it won't work.

I turned on my computer and the sony vaio symbol came up and looked like it was turning on. Then I got a black screen with white script saying "operating system failed" does anyone have any idea what's going on? I assume a virus attacked my operating system rendering it useless.

Shred, on Wednesday 13 August 2008 à 19:02:22
I recently attempted to update my PC with the Vista Service Pack 1 upgrade. There was an error at the end of the installation saying that it could not install or something. I turned my PC on today, used it for about 10 mins before it crashed, so I restarted it and then it said: Windows Failed to load etc. use the windows installation disc to repair. I used the disc and tried to do a system restore but that also failed. Any ideas? Thanks!

dear shred

The only problem is that i don't which version you were using before so if you were using Microsoft XP try to check the requirements because the requirement are not the same, vista require a lot try to upgrade memory and your processor

this is do to after june 30th updates.
also these updates will stop older photoshop programs from
running and many more.
we know that changing from wind 98 to xp can have problems and so can changing from
xp to vista.
but now we have a company removing on purpose your ability to use programs.
they have changed xp and vista in to something that is not xp or vista anymore.
due aggrements between microsoft and many software providers, the money is
neede in this economy to make you buy new programs. these companies pay
microsoft to shut down programs on your existing OS. this is fraud and is a federal
crime.
your computer is a machine working fine I hope. turn off windows updates
and use your computer as is. IT works for you , dont change it.
just upload new drivers when needed from companies.
do not trust microsoft at this time . They are desperate in this economic crises.
I know many pro computer experts as I am which shut down updates months
ago. if it working , what do you need from Microsoft.this is do to after June 30th updates.

I like your comment. i am too hopeless when come to dealing with computer beside english is not my first language either. So when I got a new desktop I thought that is will be beter than window xp. I am so wrong. I have so much problem after update to service pack 1. My computer became freezable even restore point won't fix it. I wish I turn the automatic window update off month ago like you did but again likes everyone else i expect that lhaving vista was the right choice and alll the computer in the market are full of them. Can I buy window xp software and replace it with the vista I have now. It is not easly isn' it. I am sure that there are many pepple who like me non pro computer.df

Mine crashed the other day when it was trying to download service pack 3.
It went through all of the motions fine and then started up in repair mode and said it couldn't be repaired automatically.. Talked to my Dell rep and she said all I could do was reinstall vista which would cause me to loose all of my photos etc . . . It is now in the shop having all of my files and photos taken off of the hard drive and then they are going to reinstall vista. Felt like this was the safest way.

you may have this happen again
you may want to purchase the 99 dollar start up disk sold in many places and on ebay.
This also contains vista home edition basic with no updates or sp1.

these are also available from microsoft.
if one has a problem and you get a boot error.
put it in , restart, and make sure you choose repair.
if this works and alot of times you have to do it twice for some strange reason.
you will always be able to get your computer back running and it takes about
20 minutes or less. it does not install vista . it repairs it.
Xp is same way. have or buy the boot cd.
the vista cd for 99 can be installed as not a repair and
will put basic home edition from scratch back on your computer.
you could have save all of your pictures on disk.
the programs and the entire disk can be copied at home to another
disk.
if you have a laptop, that is more difficult.
I would turn off updates, if you need a driver , just get it.
google it or go to manufacture page.
I am not going to update vista, it works fine and does what i want without sp1
unless they come out with a HoTFIX and you are real sure, then maybe in the future
we can all go to sp1.
have a great day.
