Strange noises coming from speakers

Posté par recnostro12, le Thursday April 24, 2008 10:53:33 AM
Hello,

When I say strange noises I don't mean pops or clicks. I mean voices, and music. Even when no programs are running. Happens at random times. Sometimes they sound like radio ads, sometimes music, sometimes bizarre sound effects. I've run AVG Virus Scan and Spybot S&D, and the problem persists.

Help! My computer is possessed!

Thanks!
Configuration: Windows XP
Internet Explorer 6.0

Hai

Radio interference... just Google search for info, you might be able to pinpoint how to fix it.

I used to have this problem on my budget speakers but usually higher-end equipment is shielded from it. I could actually hear telephone conversations as well.

If they are plugged in to the wall, it can even happen when your speakers are not plugged into your PC.

(As a funny side-note: the image on my PC's monitor used to vibrate randomly, like the monitor was failing. Then it would suddenly go back to normal. It took me a few weeks to realize always this always coincided with my roommate using the microwave in the kitchen, directly across the wall from my computer. I just moved the monitor to another side of the room and the interference stopped.)

I just started getting the EXACT same noises on my notebook tonight, and I have NO idea what the hell is causing it. I have another notebook here in the house with me, and they both do it, one after another, probably 1-2 seconds after the first one. One will make a certain noise, then a few second the other one will do it. And, it keeps happening. I think it might be browser related, such as something has infected the internet browser. I suggest closing the browser and seeing if it keeps happening, if it doesn't, I would investigate the browser.

I am going to try it, PLEASE post back if you figure out what is causing it, because this is RATHER annoying. BTW, the only abnormal thing I have open right now, with the noises occurring, that I normally don't, is yahoo messenger. So, if you also have messenger running, maybe it is something to do with messenger.

I've been having this same problem for a few months now. I would hear parts of news reports (some in an Australian accent), advertisements for upcoming television show episodes, and ads for internet stores (i.e. buy.com and tarceva.com). These anomalies would come and go randomly, and sometimes they would only present themselves in incomplete pieces. I've heard from one forum that they come from installing Skype. I've heard from another that it's from installing Sony's Sonicstage software (portable MP3 player library); and from another that it's from some setting in Windows Media Player. The funny thing is that I have all three installed. I've been waiting on uninstalling one or all of them until I could figure out for certain that it is, in fact, one or all of them causing the problem. I have too much on my machine to easily reinstall the OS; but, it may come to that. I'm about to toss my computer out the freakin' window!

I might have found a way to block these unwanted income audio bits. I found a software firewall called " Vista Firewall Control 2.0.0.105." It shows a list of all internet connections between your computer's software and the internet. Also, it notifies you when any of your applications are requesting internet connection. You have the choice to "Enable" the connection or "Disable" it. It's interesting to see which of my applications are requesting connections at any one time. Here's the link to the site:

There are several others to choose from to fit your needs (esp. if you have a different OS). It looks like this one is completely freeware and there is no trial period to worry about. I hope this one works.

I am having this same problem. I believe it is some form of malware that is hijacking my computer. I found a suspicious processes running and removed it today. The process is ceswxfst.sys and it was found in the windows system32 folder. I will let you know if this fixes the problem

CESWXFST.SYS is the process that is causing weird news stories and advertisements to mysteriously come through your speakers. The file was located in the Windows System32 folder. After ending this process and removing the file all problems stopped and my computer began to run better.

Oh bugger, I've been having problems with trojans lately. Trojans that's been residing in my system32 folder. I'm starting to get annoyed by it since I've already removed them but apparently they're coming back, just like yours!
