Hi,

I think that is a device speed problem if your dvd drive is configurated to read at a specific speed and the cd disk that your are using has been written at a lower speed that can avoid the reading process.

Try to burn a cd drive and check whether you can read the information.

otherwise contact your vendor

I had the same drive you do and same problem. My case is different, when I remove roxio software it removed the driver with it. If I go to to My computer, it shows the drive, but could not read/write anything . Here what we will do to get that drive back:

Start Registry Editor (Start, Run and type in regedit then click O.K)

Locate the UpperFilters value under the following key in the registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.

Locate the LowerFilters value under the same key in the registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.
Quit Registry Editor.

NOTE: After you remove the Upperfilters value and the Lowerfilters value, if you notice lost functionality in a particular program, such as CD recording software, you may need to reinstall that software.

Restart your computer.

It will fix yours like it fixed mine!

I tried deleting the file HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/.......... using registry editor like you said but the folder couldnt delete , so I deleted all the files in the folder except for one which couldn't be deleted.
On system restart, there was some improvement as the HG22NP20 drive fought harder to recognise the disc, but eventually failed , reading it as empty. Perherps I should reinstall windows(from my other CD Drive). How about updating the firmware for the drive?
I hope all this is not a hardware malfunction on my bearly 1 week old drive, else I will place my hands on my haed and SCREAMMM for a whole week!
