Hello,
As of now i have windows vista OS. if i tried to install windows xp i am getting following error.
Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer.

Make sure any hard disk drives are powered on and properly connected to your computer, and that any disk-related hardware configuration is correct. This may involve running a manufacturer - supplied diagnostic or setup program.

Setup cannot continue. To quit Setup, press F3

This is a problem with native SATA support in the BIOS. Please search this forum for the solution.

Hey

I am facing the same error.
In fact i have windows vista os which crashed down few days back and fortunately i was able to take a backup for my files using ubuntu. But now i was trying to reinstall windows vista which unfortunately didn't happened and when i tried to install windows xp, i got the same message as jb did:

Plase let me know step by step if possible how to boot my computer as i don't know how to check for SATA hard drive (enabled/disabled)in BIOS as windows vista is not showing any such sort of option. Your assistance will be of great help to me. Thanks.

Go to the store.. or on ebay or search google.. you should be able to get a free copy of unbuntu linux. All linux is free. I did it with unbuntu linux so I feel that you should as well since I know it works.

Unbuntu linux will install.. (my opinion is linux is the best.. and for this reason it makes linux better)

however, when you install linux make sure you completely format the drive and delete all other partition information.

then.... restart the computer and check out linux and see what you think!

then put in your Vista disk and restart the computer and try to do the install again. let me know what you think! it worked for me!!

no more asking for drivers!

Let me rephrase:

get Unbuntu Linux

install unbuntu linux like you would vista.

when installing unbuntu make sure that you delete and format the entire hardrive or drives on your computer

install unbuntu and make sure it works completely.

if unbuntu won't install you may have a hardware issue or a hardware configuration issue.. contact a repair center or geek squad or some other threads.

Put in your vista disk.. and restart the computer

press whatever to get the vista CD to run the install...

you should find that there are two partitions on the computer. delete both and select your install there. make sure you format before you install because linux uses a different partition than windows.

for vista you want the partition to be NTFS but it shouldn't ask. it should just install.

Good luck! I hope this works for you!!
