Hello,

I hope someone can help, am having real problems. I am unfortunately a bit illiterate when it comes to computer problems.

I went on holiday for two weeks, returned, attempted to log onto the internet and my computer crashed. If I don't attempt to connect to the internet the computer is fine, if I do, it crashes, everytime. I have changed the USB adaptor, which made no difference. Previous to my holiday the last time I logged on to the internet I had no problems. My wireless connection is only two months old, I have fully paid Norton security, and all scans show no problems. I can pick up other networks in the area, as soon as it picks up mine, (and I assume here) and attempts to connect, it causes the computer to shutdown.

There is a blue screen which says;

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

Check to ensure you have adequate disk space (I do)
Check with your hardware vendor for any BIOS updates. Disable BIOS memory options such as Caching or shadowing. If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable compnents, restart your computer or disable compronents, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced start up options, and then select safe mode.

Contact your system admin or technical support.

I also get the following minidump info when I restart - this is within the prompt 'your computer has recovered from an unexpected shutdown'

C:\Windows\Minidump\Mini010409-03.dmp
C:\Users\Barney\Appdata\Local\Temp\WER-76937-0.sysdata.xml
C:\Users\Barney\Appdata\Local\Temp\WER969F.tmp.version.txt-0.sysdata.xml

Any help would be very gratefully received, bit lost what else to do. Virgin Media have been utterly hopeless. Thanks in advance

Configuration: Windows XP
Internet Explorer 7.0

After your tried the Control Panel Network onnections sugggestion and it still doesn't work you may want to:

1. Log In SAFE MODE with internet connection.

2. Ensure your system is backed up.

3. Go to your computer firmware/software download site and update all that are applicable.

4. Update PC with Windows Update.

5. Run your PC repair program.

6. Reinstall your network adapter.

7. Make sure you run a Trojan finder/eliminator (several free ones out there, search in google or other search engines.)

8. Run your virus check.

9. Go to Tech Support on Windows and your PC manufacture.

10. I'm sure if you try all these processes your machine will start and work just fine.

If you cannot establish internet connection in safe mode. Try to reinstall your network adaptor or access point.
Then continue all the processes you can as listed above.

Lastly - restart your PC in safemode - do system restore or restore your machine to factory settings

Good Luck.
