Hy, i have a problem with a disk drive.i can´t formate him.i receive en error "windows was unable to complete the format" what can i do???

Try with the booting process---------------------------------
insert the pen drive in USB and take a bootable disk and insert in the cd rom then restasrt the computer .after some time display show the all drive in the computer than u will see the pen drive after that u will format the pen drive

Then go to command prompt
C:\Documents and settings \
then type cd..
then check name of the drive if it is G:
then type
C:\ > g:
g:\> format g then press enter
then it asks to compulsory format or not then press y
then the format is completed

This problem occurs because Windows cannot read the FAT partition table. The problem may occur when the following conditions are true:

* The MO disk is already formatted with the FAT file system.
* The file system on the MO disk uses 2048 bytes per sector.
* A non-Microsoft operating system was used to format the MO disk.

This problem does not occur if MS-DOS or the Windows operating system was used to format the MO disk.

To work around this problem, format the MO disk with the NTFS file system. Then,...

I just purchased a pata/100 barracuda hard drive that i installed into an enclosure.i am able to see the hard drive in my explorer but it shows 800+ gb ,but the hard drive is only 500. it will not let me format the disk using windows xp disk manager. please help

I have the same problem, whenever I try to format the drive, it says "Windows was unable to Complete the format." I tried FAT, FAT32, Normal and Quick format. I can't get it to work. It has worked before, but one day I put it in, it said to format, which it then said "Windows was unable to comlete the format" after I started. HELP ME!!!

Actually, I found that the removable disk is corrupted. anyone know how to restore a corrupted disk? DO NOT CARE ABOUT THE FILES IN IT, I JUST WANT THE DISK BACK!!!

I'm using a Hp laptop with vista basic os. When formatting my 4Gb memory stick i got an error. There after every time i tried open the memory stick I got error 'windows can't complete format. I tried disk management and no joy. When I took the memory stick out, put it into my Dell desktop with windows xp home edition, tried the format it worked. Give this a try :) Darragh

Hi mate, I am denny from india..i have same prob and i solved it with the following way...i think this issue was with the deleting of its primary partition..if this was the issue uc an solev it by this way..ok..just try it...

go to desktop and right button the my computer and slect the Manage
then goto disk management from the options
then select the flash drive from the clicked windows..i think its may be 3rd window


and u can format ur flashdrive with the options u got from there....ok...i solved my issue with this way..so just try it...

Hi this is kiran iam having 32gb kingston pen drive.

Even i tried in msdos prompt also but i could not resolve this issue.

right click on my computer
>manage>disk management
right click on flash drive/ pen drive/ window show 3 drive
format (not in ntfs try it in exFAT)
it works surely

i solve my problem on 40 gb pen drive

THats happend when i format my pc. At that time it was connected with the pc...i forget to disconnect it. When i formatted my pc my Flash drive formatted with that. Then ic an't open or save anything to that drive. So i need to do that way to solve my issue.

How I resolve this problem that I had now? I bought a new harddrive from Wal-mart and I installed it Window XP Home Edition. After I installed the harddrive the window asking me to restart my computer? And click on the harddrive that I just install then a window popup say, " Window was unable to complete the format". What can I do about it?

That definitely worked for me (OCZ 4GB USB drive)... I had to go into Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Computer Management -> Disk Management and right-click on the "Unallocated" (black) block that represented the USB drive and create a new volume. I was only able to choose FAT32 at this stage, but once that worked, I was able to right-click on the mounted drive in My Computer and reformat to NTFS.
