NAT need Help

Hello,


I am having internet connection. When i checked my pc ip its a local ip 192.168.1.1 .
For finding the actual ip use the site whatismyip.com and i found that the ip is a Public one and its not at all changing.. am using adsl modem.. i try access the modem from other computers and i can get in the modem. and i try telnet and get into it.then when i ping to my local ip of the pc i am getting the reply. but cant able to take any shares or files.. how it can be access??


My second doubt is same thing is done in my office server.. but i think it has some router.. I am connecting to server through remote desktop by giving the name of site or by its public ip.. But when i check the ip of the server it a private one...here in my office there is no one to help me...Hope some one will help me... Its the first time am using a Forum site.. I dont know rules and all hope some one will help me...

Shares are not normally used across the internet without some type of tunnel. Consider the older free version of barracudadrive at softpedia. It allows you to share your files across the internet in some bit of safety. You may still have to modify a few settings.

You would need to access the modems web based interface to nat it's public to your private and the correct ports in any case.

You are correct in that you would need to NAT/PAT.

Remote Desktop would show the remote's ip so you see it can work as you want it to work at home.

I think some other people have suggessted hamachi, might be other choices such as openssh or openvpn and such.
