Acer aspire one laptop and the net

Hello,
i have new laptop acer aspire one and i'm losing face fast becasue my wife looks at me like a dummy because i can't put it on line. i have a linksys wireless router. i could not get it to work with that so i just went with a direct hookup to the net. i have another laptop and the direct hookup works fine on that and ican get on the net. the acer, i've tried what i think is every coinfigurations possible with no luck. any help would be greatly appreciated and if it is successful i still can save face.

Live update on acer aspire one doesn't work! Hello, the live update on my acer aspire one doesn't work. when i run it the screen just says communicating with server the whole time, then an error message appears saying could not download information. can anyone help?
