Hello,
Sometimes when I switch on my computer i can't hear any sound, all the time I have to shut down and log in again. Can anybody send me what I have to do with that.
Thank you!
Eric

Configuration: Windows Vista

First of all you should check that the audio driver has been properly installed. There might be a conflict with some other drivers. If it's ok, you might need to do a System Restore. If this is not working, I would hardly suggest you to try to install the audio driver again! Good Luck

Looks like I'm not the only guy here.
I also have a sony VGN-CR21Z laptop and I have the EXACT same issue as Eric does.
I tried a system restore and it doesn't seem to help much. Also, in terms of the driver re-install. I tried using the official realtek website, and the download is way too slow. There has to be another way of resolving such an issue without having to re-install the driver

Hi,
Download the original drivers package of your laptop on sony.vaio support website : http://support.vaio.sony.co.uk/...
and try to reintall it.

Thanks for the link aquarelle, I was able to download and reinstall the drivers.
However the sound still had problems. But I think I did find the cause of the problem in the first place. I noticed the problem originally occured when my laptop was in the "power saver" mode in Windows Vista. When I plugged my laptop back in the mains and returned the setting to "High Performance", it somehow magically came back to life!
I'm not sure if it would help Eric though, as he stated the sound would only return when he fully restarts the computer. This problem could be due to the bad performance of the Realtek driver software within Windows Vista.

I had the same problem as you. after a lot of researching i could find out that windows vista service pack 1 is making a serious conflict with the sound card.
you need to update the bios. after this, the problem is solved.

i got all this information from a live chat with the vaio's technical support team. they gave me the link from wich i could download an .exe file to update the bios with just one click.

i did all of this stuff like a month ago or so, and until now i had no more problems with my laptop.

if you need more information about this solution, just ask. i will be happy to help you.

Nice one mate, I updated the BIOS firmware and now I'm problem free.
Thanks alot for the help. Somehow I had a feeling Windows Vista was somehow at fault here. Isn't it always :D

The bios is boot firmware designed to be the first code run by a pc when powered on. the initial function of the BIOS is to identify, test, and initialize system devices such as the video display card, hard disk, and floppy disk and other hardware

if you are not familiar with this, i recommend asking help to someone with experience..

http://support.vaio.sony.co.uk/downloads/updates/updates.asp

With the link provided above you have to select your laptop model to download drivers and SW updates.

If your model is VGN-CR11S/L the link to fix the sound problem is:

http://support.vaio.sony.co.uk/...

IF THAT IS NOT THE EXACT MODEL OF YOUR LAPTOP please, use the first link i gave you, select the correct model and update the bios.

Hi,
The link I used is the second one epumer kindly gave me 2 posts above. Of course, if your computer is not the same model as mine (VGN-CR11S/L) you'd have to do as he says and use the first link then select your computer model. The instructions on the website will tell you what to do next. I had no data loss or any other problem, but I am not expert in those matters. Good luck ! I hope this helps.

I have a CR21 and I am facing the same problem with the sound after sleep/wake. From what I read updating the BIOS will do the job for that. Problem is that i dont care that much about the sound issue. My problem is that the volume keys dont work and the brightness combo (Fn+F5 or F6) either. Will the update fix this issue too? Does anyone know? Anyone that has the same problem?

Hi I have sony vaio laptop model is sony cr vgn-cr23g from india. I have sound driver of realtek high definition audio. After installing Vista Service Pack 1 my sound started giving me a problem. I had a similar problem as mentioned in this post. When I switch on my computer i can hear sound for about 2-5 mins then i can't hear any sound, all the time I have to shut down and log in again. After a restart I can hear sound for only 2-5mins and again sound goes off. Window audio service working fine. The real problem is with updating your vista with Vista Service Pack 1. Solution to the problem is to update your system bios from the sony support website of your region. I got my BIOS update from http://www.sony.co.in/support/download . Choose your model number here to find out the exact bios update for your laptop. I update from here and my sound problem has gone. Thanks to this forum.
