Just bought an hp pavilion elite e9160f, and can't get itunes to download, goes through whole process then gives me a message that reads 'unknown publisher can't verify'. HP tech support is useless, and i've spent 12 hours or more with them and they still can't figure it out. Any ideas?

Try to uninstall comletely by using uninstall 2000 or recently version because you last time installed was not remove at all. It looks likely been removed but that is not true.

good luck

Hey LRAKA,
i have already mentioned the solution for installation of itunes. it seems there is some problem with compatibility of itunes v8 with XP..so, i advise u to get a itunes 7 or earlier version and install that. it works perfectly. and itunes is free, so u can search for previous versions of itunes other than itunes 8

u can google search "download itunes 7" and search few other download sites like www.download.com and check it out there..u'll definately find one or the other link for downloading itunes 7.
and ya, i guess, itunes 8 works on vista. i am 90% sure, but not 100% sure, so u can check out that.

If you have older versions of iTunes installed in your computer and you have playlist saved to it, try to uninstall older versions of iTunes including Quicktime player and all Apple application that you can locate in the add or remove programs in the Control Panel. After uninstalling it try to find the folder "iTunes" that contains all of your playlist that was previously configured in iTunes that you uninstalled and delete it. It is normally not deleted even if you already uninstalled iTunes. But before you delete the "iTunes" folder make sure that you back up first all of the songs that was saved in the playlist folder. After deleting the "iTunes" folder install iTune 8 and you are good to go. I hope i help you in this one.

Try to uninstall your previous versions of iTunes including all the Apple application that you can locate in the Add o Remove programs including Quick time. After uninstalling everything try to find the filename "iTunes" that contains all of your playlist that was previously configured from your old iTunes (normally it is saved in the My Music folder). "iTunes" folder are not automatically deleted even if you already uninstall iTunes from your computer. Delete the file but make sure that you have a back up on all of the songs or videos that was saved in your playlist. After deleting it try to install iTunes 8 and you're good to go. I Hope it will work cause it worked on me.

Hi all, for anyone struggling to install itunes 8 or later, i had the same issues and i managed to fix mine quicly and easily.

download itunes, and keep .exe file on desktop, before installing, download, windows installer 3.1 or higher for 32bit or for 64bit.

install windows installer 3.1 and then download .net framework 2.0 or higher all from microsoft.com.

only when these 2 are installed can you install itunes on your pc, whether xp or vista.

give it a shot it worked for me.

Try disabling your antivirus, antispyware, firewall all at once and then install. preferably disconnect from internet for safety reasons before doing this. it should work

Try downloading Windows Installer Clean Up here-- http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301

then delete itunes and quicktime reboot then it will install

Hello. If you are running Windows XP, make sure you have atleast Service Pack 2 installed. If you had previously downloaded Microsoft's .NET framework SP2 & 3 delete both as they are known to conflict with iTunes. Many have reported that after .NET framework has been installed, iTunes would not function. This is most likely the case. Uninstall the .NET framework. Your computer will prompt you to reboot. After doing so, reinstall iTunes and it should work fine.

Hi Doug,

I'm getting the same message as the first poster. Perhaps you could help.

"The system encountered error before itunes could be configured. Your systems has not been modified. To retry these operations at a later time, please run the installer again."

I'm running Vista with Service Pack 1 on a 32 bit operating system. Oh, and it's my first time installing itunes.

Thank you,
Mark

The microsoft clean-up tool was the answer for installing the latest version folks. Don't bother with all the other stuff mentioned. It took me 1 minute to download and install. Go that route and I guarantee resolution for most of you.
