Hello,
I have a Dell e510 running XP SP2 that is hung on boot. It runs BIOS and XP banner, but dies to a gray screen and mouse. I have let it sit at this state as long as overnight.

Reading a mulltitude of forums on this topic, I have tried troubleshooting Hardware first. Seagate HD disk check - no errors in short or long diagnostic. Swapped 2GB memory with another machine - recognized but no impact on boot. Removed USB devices on boot, no change.

For SW troubleshooting, I traied booting in Safe - I can get the safe mode bannner, but it still hangs. I tried booting from my OEM OS CD. In this mode, I can enter recovery mode (R) and tried the bootcfg rebuild. No effect. I do not get a repair option when running the XP install option.

I have data on board that I'd like to keep, so I am looking for suggestions that do not involve rebuild.

My daughters use this machine - claim no new SW loads. No new HW added. Not sur ewhat changed.

Thanks!

Configuration: Windows XP Home
Internet Explorer 7.0
