| Hi,
Can you check whether you Disc Drive is well connected ?
to check the device :
Right click on my Computer
Select Properties
Hardware devices
Device Manage :
Check your Dvd/cd drives.. whether everything is connected.
If not try re-installing the device or to update it. Reply to cfk.exe09 | 2 Damian, on Jan 1, 2009 8:23:44 pm GMT Reply to Damian | 3 luc, on Apr 24, 2009 6:59:43 pm BSTIve delt wit this before shut your pc down then turn it on again.

| 10 vinci0906, on Aug 26, 2009 9:21:06 pm BSTHello Damian,
I have a solution for your problem. Its a problem with Windows registry. Follow these simple steps to fix this in under 5 minutes. Good Luck!
If you have a problem with the computer not showing up the DVD/CD drive icon in the My computer window either in VISTA/XP, there is a little precheck list that you may want to go through before thinking about deleting upper/lower filter in registry. Here's how you do it.
1. First check in device manager in vista/xp to check if the DVD drive is getting detected. Usually if its a registry problem, the DVD drive will be detected in the device manager but it will also have a yellow exclamation mark on the DVD drive device entry which will be clearly visible. If this is the case, then simply follow the below link to fix it automatically by running an installer rather than manually messing around with the registry settings as this can harm you computer.
2. Here's the link - http://tinyurl.com/dxxcwt
3. Once you login here you will be presented with option to "save" or "run" the file. Please choose "save" and save the file in a place where you can access it. Once downloaded, run the downloaded installer file named "MicrosoftFixit50027.msi" by just double clicking on it. After installing you will have to reboot the computer and thats is all. You will have your DVD/CD drive back in the Operating System.
Hope this helps :D Reply to vinci0906 | 13 JD, on Sep 5, 2009 9:34:03 pm BSTThe MicrosoftFixit50027.msi works like a champ. I spent 6 hours on the MS website with not one solution.

You dont have to worry about losing the pictures as restoring only means its going to change the system files as needed and it will not affect your data like pictures, documents, music, e-mails or video files in any way. Please go ahead and run the MicrosoftFixit solution without any worries :) Reply to Vinay |

When I insert a dvd into my computer, its not showing up under my computer either, also when I check my device manager, its not there.....CD/DVD drives aren't listed. Weird. I was listed about 4 months ago. Reply to Athenius |

Recently when i connected together a new cc/dvd lg writer with my old cd/dvd rom.but the drive shows nil. when i remove the power cable from the old rom , 1 of the drive shows.please help me to solve the problem
paul Reply to paul | 19 Vinay, on Oct 12, 2009 3:25:07 am BSTHello Paul,
In order for me to solve this problem for you, I would need some more details on how the CD/DVD drive is connected in your computer. There are 3 things I would like to know:
1. What is the interface the CD/DVD drive hardware is connected - is it using a Parallel IDE interface (if the cable is a flat ribbon cable which is wide and has about 40 pins on the connector end) or is it using a SATA interface (This is a cable which is about 1/2 an inch wide and the connector that goes into the Drive is also very thin)
2. What is the Power output of the POWER SUPPLY used in your computer. You can find this if you open the tower case and look at the sides of the power supply unit. It should show some wattage rating, for example: 400W, 600W etc.
3. How may drives are connected in your system in total including your new CD/DVD drive + the existing Hard Disk drives.
From what I can tell so far about the problem your facing is that, the power supply unit on you computer might be of a low wattage and is not providing enough power to the devices. I can ascertain this by the fact that when you disconnect the power cable from one of the drives (ie your old CD drive) one of the other drives shows up. This might indicate that the problem is with the power supply not providing enough power when both the drive's power cables are connected.
regards,
S. Vinay Reply to Vinay |
