My wife was on my PC and asked what an ActiveX control was and why my computer was saying it needed to download it... Here’s my mistake... I assumed she was on YouTube or something and didn't look as what it said.

Needless to say it was a spyware/adware/trojan/virus thing. My wife doesn't remember what website it was. Anyways... It put a fake virusscan on my computer, and this weird flashing icon that keeps popping up a warning saying I’ve got an infection.

I can't seem to locate it with Spybot or Trend Micro. But I think they stopped working properly.

I need step by step help cause I suck at this stuff...

Thanks in advance.

Jonhson, calm down ! lol..

This is not really a spyware.. its a pop up infection ! You usually have : unblock or keep unblocking when a website contain popup, try downloading a pop-up blocker, then install Avira anti-virus and make a complete scan..

Avira is the best anti-virus actually..

Take care

OK, so, I'm not bad in that area, so let’s get this fixed.

First try more than one single antispyware. Download these:
Arovax Antispyware
Ad-Aware

Something else that may works is to locate the virus/program in your control panel > add/remove programs and uninstall it. For that, you of course need to have the name of this boring program/virus.

And as a last resort after trying all of this and it still isn't fixed download HiJackThis and post a log.

Good luck! And if your AV didn't stop the download and activation of the virus it either needs to be updated, or you need to switch services, odds are the first one though.

Tell me if that solved your problem.

Best,
