USB storage device

Hello,
I recently bought a net laptop with Windows XP service pack 3 already installed. My problem? Windows does not recognize my USB thumb storage device. Both my laptop and storage device are 2.0. Any ideas on how to fix the problem?

2.0 what ?

Using a USB 2.0 device on a USB 1.0 computer will just cause it to run slower than if it was run on a USB 2.0 computer.
