Firewire not working

Hello,

Hello, I have a Gateway GT5414e computer. Its about a year old and Im just now trying to get my sony video camera to work on it.
In order to get the video off the little cassette, I need a firewire cable and port.. I have both.. But vista, Xp and 2003server doesnt recognize it when I plug it in.
Ive been on tech support with both sony and gateway and neither can get this thing to work.
Ive also bought a firewire card to see if that would work.. but nothing. I know the cable works, because it works just fine on my laptop running xp home.
Both firewires show up in the device manager, but nothing happens when you plug the camera in.

Not sure what info you guys need.But heres my motherboard
ECS MCP61-P AM2 Motherboard

Hello

Are you sure your Sony video camera (Whatever it is) is certified to work with Windows Vista? BTW look in the Device Manager. Is there any Exclamations placed next to IEEE 1394 Bus Host Controllers ? If not, Your firewire is working.
