D link switch not connect wid our three lapy

Hello,
i want to tell u that d-link switch wid 8 port is not able to connect wid our laptops ....after installation... it want IP address....inplace of IP address wat can i give ....so at particular instant we use all three laptop.....there is some message which display on screen on right hand corner "there is shortage of connectivity" like that....but lan connection shows 100mbps speed....wen we go in properties it ask for ip address ...so plz solve my problem...i am in delimma wat to do..
