Kernel Not Loading

anithNair15, on Thursday April 10, 2008 02:19:40 PM
Hello,

Hello,i have a Compaq R4000 that ive had for almost 3 years now well once day i decide to get on it so i turn it on and it says Compaq Esc for boot order.....ETC ETC ETC and then semms to start to go to Windows load screen and stays at a black screen so i thought that the windows folder was corrupt so i get a live cd of ubuntu and tried it it started up and said Compaq ETC ETC adn then went to UBUNTU Start or Install Ubuntu and some other options. So i got to start and it seems to start going to the loads screen and goes black and the fan is going and everything but i cant do anything. So i got Fedora and did the same thing. Started it up and now its saying Ready. Uncompressing Linux... Ok, booting the kernel. And stops there with a little underline blinking so i think its a Kernel Loading problem Can anyone help me? PS I can't start in Safe Mode and all kinds of other stuff.
Configuration: Windows XP
Internet Explorer 6.0

Hai

That's a strange coincidence because my home laptop is also refusing to start up (even in Safe Mode) since yesterday. It starts loading device drivers and then blue-screens. I blame aliens from outer space.

You may get a better response if you post this in the General Hardware or Windows XP forum.

For what it's worth, the way I plan to solve my problem (which may be similar to yours) is to use the Windows XP boot CD, reformat the hard drive and reinstall everything. If that doesn't work, I'll replace the hard drive. If that doesn't work, I will assume it's a motherboard problem, and throw the whole damn thing into the skip.
