Hi. I hope someone can help me with my problem. My laptop (from Gateway) has a built-in webcam called Gateway USB 2.0 Webcam.
I bought it last September and the camera seemed to work properly. Then after a couple of months, pc encountered a problem (which I am unfamiliar with) and all of a sudden the settings of the profile I was using changed. Everytime I log in, Windows will say : "system cannot load your desktop profile" [or something like that] and it says that my videocard has problems etc. What I did was, I re-worked the display and settings of my desktop so it will go back to my original profile display such as changing the background, putting the files on the desktop etc. Unfortunately, everytime I shut down the pc and turn it back on, the profile automatically goes back to the unchanged settings which means that the settings I currently saved were all erased including the files I put in the desktop. To further solve my problem, I erased the old profile and created a new one.
Therefore I finally solved the "desktop settings" issue. But to make matters worst, when I opened YM (which I usually use when opening the built-in webcam) clicked start webcam, all I see is black. I know that it is working because the blue light turns on [its off when not in use] but then I cannot see any image anymore.
Is it possible that I have erased something in the profile which caused the sudden malfunction of the webcam? I tried disabling and enabling the cam but it still doesnt work. I want to reinstall it but I cant find the driver in my system maintenance.
Please help me with my webcam problem.
Thank you for the time.
Configuration: Windows Vista Internet Explorer 7.0
Sounds like your drivers are bad. I would uninstall the software used for the webcam, then go into device Manager and locate the webcam, then uninstall it.
