I'm sorry but you're not specifying enough. Are you plugging the headphones into the same jack as the speakers were?

Also, press the headphones in firmly, sometimes they have to click into place and you don't realize it.

I have a desktop.

I'm having a HEADPHONE sound problem. I have MSI (DKA 790GX Platinum) Motherboard.
(1). I have REALTEK HD Audio Manager.

(2). When I plug in my headphones :
Under the AUDIO I/O tab....(in the FRONT Green jack)....the Audio device should've detected the head phones were plugged in.

(3). I can play the sound from my Monitor Speaker (... note ... I have built in speakers in my Monitor) and no issues but the headphones are not detected.

My REAR (Green Jack) is plugged into the Monitor. And the display (ICON) shows REAR SPEAKERS.

(4). When I open the REALTEK HD Audio Manager the FRONT PANEL (Green jack) doesn't allow me to make any changes when I put my cursor on it. The REAR output (Green jack) shows speakers and when I change the button tab from 2CH Speaker to Headphones (on the back)....they still play through the monitor speakers.

(5). Why can't I click on HEADPHONES Icon where it has the FRONT Green (or Pink) jack to make any changes so I can HEAR sound out of the front jack when the headphones are connected ?

HELP ????
Are you aware if there's any driver updates that need to be installed to fix this problem?

Did you figure out your problem?

You described the exact problem I am having with my desktop and with Realtek. It won't let me click anything. If you could shed any light on this, let me know! thanks.

You cant have 2 outputs at the same time.... Its just not possible. If you were to unplug your monitor and lug your headphones in the front jack it would detect I had the same issues for a while.

Bill Turn the volume down on the monitor and you won't hear the audio form the monitor speakers but you will still hear from the headphones. They have different volume controls.

I have a big problem. I created a presentation that works perfect on my pc.
The sound plays while the other animation does it's thing. However when I
email to another co-worker, it doesn't play the sound. We tried it on several
machines. It's not the sound or speakers. I don't know if this has anything
to do with it but, it prompts my co-worker to "Open", "Save" or "Cancel" the
file. I REALLY don't want it to do that either. I have seen it when you can
double click the presentation and it will automatically play. Can anyone help
with one or preferably both of these problems. My boss would really like to
send this ASAP.

As far using Powerpoint on another machine, you MUST embed the sound into the file you send to someone else. Go to HELP in Powerpoint and search for "Use embedded and linked sound files in Powerpoint" for the complete directions on how this is done. A little tricky the first time. Another way is to go to File | Package for CD.... (may be slightly different for your version) and follow those directions.

Having the same trouble with Realtek HD Audio and headphones not cutting out the speakers since I applied SP3 to an XP media center PC. Disconnecting the external speakers has no effect although Realtek control panel still recognises when I plug in the headphones.

If you followed all the advice above and still cant find a cure, I might have another suggestion for you.

1. First be sure that you are not sharing ports in the front and back. The green port in the back is the same port thats used as a headphone in the front. The same goes for the pink microphone jack. So be sure only ONE of these (either the front or the back) is in use.
2. If no sound comes from the front jacks, go into "Reaklek HD Audio Manager" and in the "Audio I/O" tab click the little wrench button next to the word "Analog."
3. In this setting, CHECK "Disable Front Panel Jack Detection."
4. Click OK and suddenly you should be hearing audio and recording with your mic from the front jacks.

Hope this helps you guys, Good luck!

I've got the front and back audio connectors working simultaniously on my Motherboard (Gigabyte GA-EP35C-DS3R) with Realtec drivers.

Activate the 'Mute the rear output device when a front headphone plugged in' under the advanced settings menu.

Click on Folder Icon next to Analog. Click on the 'Disable Front Panel Jack Detection' button.

I've got both green connectors set to headphone.

Only the 'Speakers' icon is showing....no '2nd Output Device' is showing.

It has always worked for me.

Using both front and rear panel? Front panel for headphone and rear for speakers? Then, speakers working, headphone not? Here's a little trick:

Open Realtek HD Audio, select Audio I/O, click the "Connector Setting Icon" right side of the "ANALOG"
text, after clicking it, a Connector Setting Window/Dialog Box will pop out.

There are three check boxes on it, the Disable, Mute and Enable, Mute/2nd box and Enable/3rd box already had checks on them, put a check on the Disable/1st box.

Test your headphone and speaker, they should both working now. Uncheck the Disable/1st box later.

Hope this help you guys.. Sorry for my bad english.. ^_-

Hey ya'll.. HELPPP MEEE!!!

I have the same problem, I was plugging a mixer to the recording jack, but due to some earthing problems, I felt some charge in the connection as i was plugging it in. This caused the mains of my house to trip, and I had to reset the PC. When I turned my PC on, I did not find any sound playing.

All the audio applications seem to be playing the songs but there's no output.the eq is jumping about but there's no output. I even reinstalled realtek drivers but it didnot work when I checked the audio I/O in the HD audio interface, two ports have gone MISSING!!!??

http://img25.imageshack.us/img25/4126/snapshotq.jpg

Realtek does not detect the 3.5 mm jack in any of the 6 ports on the board.. What do I do??????

I reaaaaaallly need this working cuz I've an exam to study for with audio in it and its 5 days away..

Solution is very simple.

Goto Realtek Audio HD manager in systray
goto AudioIO tab and see where is the headphone/speaker symbol
There should be only one such symbol depending on where u have connected the headphones(front/rear)
If you find headphone symbol repeating at some other place, change it to something else
Now everything will work

Hi,
I have a similar problem. I am using Vista business. I installed Windows Live Messenger and Skype. Just after that no sound is coming from my laptop, even in the opening. However, I can hear sounds if I use headphones. Although I uninstall Messenger and skype the problem continues.
I am waiting for your answers.
