Well, you're trying to directly connect to your laptop. Your PS3 may be able to connect to your wireless network instead. Connecting to your laptop won't work without a large set of settings being set. It would use your laptop as a router for your PS3, and in the process it would slow down your laptop a decent amount and limit the amount of bandwidth available to your PS3, so I suggest you either A) connect your PS3 to your router wirelessly, or B) Connect your PS3 to your router with a regular Cat5 Lan cable.

Let me know how this works or if you have issues, I have a PS3 myself and play online all the time.

Everything u said there is a load of crap. i connect my laptop from my friends wireless connection down the road and i use an ethernet cable to connect it to my ps3. all i do is select the wireless network. right click and go 2 properties. click on advanced and click on share this connection with another computer. hit apply and just run the network settings on the ps3. it works fine, better then a wireless connection

You're an idiot. you are STILL on a wireless connection. you are just piggybacking your likely stolen internet connection to your PS3. get your own internet subscription.

I have a connection question with my ps3. I just moved in with a friend who has comcast cable, but uses his cell phone company for his wireless internet. If i have a compatible modem, which i do, to comcast, can i just screw the cable cord to my modem and use the ethernet cord to connect my modem to ps3 for a connection? I just dont want to have to pay 20 dollars a month just so i can play madden online.....Thanks

Ya, whenever I go to sign up to playstation network, it says a connection to the server could not be established. Then I go to test the internet connection and it says
Otain IP address- succeeded
Internet connection- Failed

I have ethernet cable connected to a router that is NOT wireless, and pluged into the wall for internet, but still wont work.

Yes, I played FFXI on my PS3 (using the PS2 file thingy from PSN store) using:

PS3
PC with modem connecting to Juno
ICS enabled on the Juno net connection
It took ages to get it sorted but eventually I got it lined up and as long as I had the PC dialled in to Juno I could play.

Granted, this was an expensive, cumbersome, SLOW solution, I was able to feed my addiction with it. I had to upgrade to broadband though because certain areas in FFXI would lag out.

What I *can't* remember is whether or not I used a crossover LAN cable between the PS3 and PC.

I've had the same problems my self and i know what its like.
depending on how good your connection is you may not be able to reach other people's playstations online files if they're on the other side of the world.

on some newer games you will be able to choose what region you're in and have a better connection overall.
Once chosen you can also choose which other areas of the world. also depending how far away it is you may not be able to reach that far of distance without the PSN kicking you offline.

Acctuall when i first got my 2 ps3's i went ahead and updated it when i had no internet so i could not play online then my neighbor told i will have to downgrade it then once u do that u will have to go to settings and and go to the very bottom and click on internet connection thyen ul click on connect to internet and say yes u want to go through with this then pick if you want to connect to wireless or ethernet then ssay do not use to all the other extra parts of the internet and connect then go to upgrade ur via'internet and upgrade your ps3 then when you go to sign up make sure you say u r 18 so pick the years 1990 or under then do everything else and then get on the game ur gonna play aand go online and u should have internet
