Hello,

All three of my CD ROM drives have quit working. The Device Manager says that the drivers are no good. So how does one fix this since even though I have my Windows XP disc if the drive won't read it I'm in a Catch 22 right ? Any advice ?

Configuration: Windows XP
Firefox 3.0.4

Go 2 command prompt and write this command:

C:\> attrib -r -s -h autorun.inf
C:\> del autorun.inf
d:\. attrib -r -s -h autorun.inf
d:\> del autorun.inf

Restart your PC. This should create new drives. If 4 some reason it doesn't work 4 u, then run a System Restore back 2 the day b4 u started having problems with the drives. It should correct any changes that were made........Good Luck!!!!!!!!!

Ok, let us try this. My dvd driver stopped working (LG). Thinking it was the drive, I purchased a new one(Pioneer). The new one does not work either.
In my Device manager the drive is present, however, the icon is not present in "my computer" and of course it does not read or write.
Any suggestions? HELP!!!

This link is for people who can't see thier drives in "My Computer". It does nothing for the rest of us, who can see the drives and the contents of inserted discs, but can't do anything with those contents. The drives both read discs, but Windows won't open ANY file type (audio, video, executables, even simple Notepad files!) from either disc drive.

This just worked for me. It was the easiest fix ever!!! And an evil internet monster didn't even take over my computer when I ran the program. Whoever posted this is a saint.
