Acer Aspire one Randomly shuts downClosed

Question

Hello, 

I have a problem with my netbook. it randomly shuts down. i'll be working on it and it just powers off for no reason like someone holds the power button to turn it off. it happens when i'm working on it, and also when it just is sitting there. I always have it plugged into the wall for power. I've never dropped it, spilled on it, nothing blocks the fan, the fan works.  I've checked the power settings. Can anyone help.

I have been reading these forums for the whole weekend about the shutdown problem with the Acer Aspire One AOA150.
Tried all the solutions, including taking the netbook apart, and nothing worked.

FINALLY I GOT THE SOLUTION THAT WORKED FOR ME!!!! :-)

Basically it is the CPU overheating. I think whatever controls when the cooling fan switches on does not do its job with the latest BIOS update (Which IS needed to get the battery to charge).
I installed: Acer Aspire One (AA1) Fan Control for Windows XP/Vista.

Monitor the CPU temperature and set accordingly.

Hi,

may be Laptop overheating is resulting in Shut Down.

try to clean all the vents, blow out with canned air.

Never run your laptop on bag & bed. Sides, back and bottom must be clear.

it sits on a desk, and there is noting under it. I cleaned the vents and fans. but it still does it. I tried that last week.

it can happen anywhere from 5 min being turned on to 5 days. I've never seen it before in any other computer.

Mine does EXACTLY the same thing. I turned off Disk defrag, propped it up to help cool, removed the battery so the PS doesnt have to charge it all the time.

I don't know what the answer is.

I got the same problem. It happened after I flashed the bios to the latest version in order to get rid of the problem with the battery not charging (this is well documented if you google it). I only has about 10 seconds after boot up until it would switch off. I used the 10 seconds to disable ACERFAND and voila, it was now stable. I got rid of ACERFAND and installed a1ctl to do the same thing. Guess what - got  a shutdown shortly after this, so got rid of a1ctl also. No problems since.
