Hello,

I hope you have found an answer, if you didn't here it is: shut down the notebook. Remove the battery for a couple of seconds and replace it. It works for me every time.

The keyboard locks up on mine when I turn the notebook on while in tablet mode. I mean the cover is closed with the screen facing out.

I hope this helps.

Thank you so, so, so, much. I had the keyboard problem with this computer. After talking with HP, going through a long process of updates, backups, and restores, they advised me to exchange it. I've had my second tablet pc for about two weeks and the keyboard died right before my college finals. I was ready to move on to greener pastures, but your post saved me. I love this computer and I so wanted it to work. Thank you. I'll be telling HP the solution.

Great solution. I had just reinstalled the keyboard driver, restarted a few times, searched the control panel for some accidental keyboard shutoff, etc, when I started googling for a solution. I also have an HP TX1523cl and I think I booted in slate mode which seemed to cause the problem. Great job!!

Hi there! THANK YOU so much for this solution!
this has been the second time that my keyboard for my hp pavilion tx2000 has stopped working, and i've only had it for 4 months.
the first time, i've only had it for 2 weeks, i contacted HP and they told me to do a BIOS update and uninstall the keyboard hardware, that didnt work. so I did a live chat with them and they told me to send in my laptop.
it took about 1.5 weeks for them to send me the box, I was about to send in my laptop when i was watching a movie and then the keyboard suddenly worked again! so, i thought maybe it was just a glitch in the system.

then today, i had my laptop in tablet mode and my keyboard stopped working. the whole day i've been using the pen and screen, and it was not a pleasant thing at all, my wrist hurted like crazy!!

i should've googled this earlier. i thought that by watching a movie on my laptop again, the keyboard would work again, apparently not, lols. once again, THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH for this solution!! you rock!

I had this same problem and wasn't getting anywhere searching for the fix on Microsoft. SooOOooOOoo.. I finally entered this search string into Google out of sheer desperation: "my cat ran across my keyboard and now the keyboard is not responding correctly"

Voila... problem solved instantly with this solution. Thanks. You ARE a Goddamned genius

P.S. God Bless you, GOOGLE! ;) Your search engines rock.

Hey, thanks for posting the fix. I too had my HP in tablet mode and the keyboard would not work when trying to boot up in normal laptop mode. So, this fix was so easy to do and saved me a lot of hassle. And now the question is why doesn't HP do something about this? What is so magical that taking out a battery fixes the problem and yet they don't update the laptop to get rid of this annoying problem?

Worked for me as well! Amazing! I have a $399 HP G60 Notebook PC w/ Windows Vista from Best Buy. Mouse/Laptop just froze and so I manually shut down by holding the On/Off button down for 10 seconds and then I took the battery out for 10 seconds, booted up in Safe Mode and then restarted computer so I was in normal mode. Worked like a champ. Thanks so much!

Quick question...we have this same problem and sony won't help us because they say it is a driver issue. Did either of you re-install your operating system and update the drivers yourself? Or are you using the shipped OS that comes with the laptop? I'm trying to find proof that our issue isn't from our OS install and is a hardware related issue. Thanks for your info...I'd like to get this FIXED so that we don't have to tell our users to pull their batteries out everytime it locks up.

Thanks!

Hello,

I also experienced the same problem, and luckily found a post describing the battery removal trick.

I have not installed any additional OS components.. I have however, updated my BIOS to the newest one on HP's site, and updated my QuickButtons program (Also to the newest on HP's site). My lappy's model is TX2604ca

It seems that the problem occurs when the laptop comes out of hibernate in tablet mode. The tracker mouse works, the touch screen works, but keyboard, wireless button and sound button (mute anyway) does not work once it is locked up.

Hope this helps

I am currently trying to get this issue fixed by HP. They should escalade the problem and phone me in the next couple of days.

I did some testing tonight. Booting from Linux (knoppix or Kubuntu) while the screen is closed facing outward cause the same behavior as with vista. So Tell that to HP when they tell you to format the computer or replace drivers. I got so sick of this song that I returned the laptop to the store. However I was not able to find finer tablet pc for that price range. So after chatting with a HP representative, I got to the store and got my TX2604CA laptop back.

I will let you know how this goes.

Damn keyboard doesn't respond. I'm near suicide because of that
I was using my wife's laptop to find the solution and then I'm here.
I have removed the battery and waiting the seconds while I'm writting this.

I though I have to give back the laptop to tech support and wait the annoying time to get a refurb or a new one.
Thank you guys you're a god damn genius !!!!

Looking back I remember the keyboard frozed up after a screen twist. Would it be some kind of isue with the tablet mode?

Either way I will write to HP to tell them how dumb they are. I say it again... Thank guys.

Thank you so much, solved my problem. I have an hp dv2610us. Have had it for a year and half and last night just closed the lid to put it to sleep and when I opened it this morning, the keyboard and touch pad were dead. Pulled the battery and waited a few minutes and bingo, everything worked on startup. For those who are interested, no new updates lately except for the usual Vista updates. Thanks again!

IMy keyboard was not working as well as the volume and wireless buttons. Also i did notice it stops working when you start it up in tablet mode or if it wakes up from hibernation during tablet mode. As if the BIOS doesn't see the keyboard when you boot it up during tablet mode. It may be a hardware fault or software (BIOS).
so I sent mine in after i told them that the OS has nothing to do with the issue. It is BIOS related beacuse you cant even hit F10 to get into the BIOS/CMOS during bootup. The HP agent guy sounded stuttery as if he knew something was wrong....Maybe a future BIOS firmware update will alleviate this problem if we all fuss about it with HP.
But if there is a problem..we should all file a law suit dudes! =]

u can do a bios upgrade... this fix is readily available in HP website...F.12 bios onwards, there was never such a problem.
