Screen freezes & slow performance

I recently installed a comcast version of McAffee and since I've been experiencing screen freezes, slow performance, etc. opening & shutting down takes forever and in most cases when shutting down I receive the message that the system is not responding-- is this due to the security software or is it possible I have a virus ? In some cases the CPU usuage is showing as 100% ( but not today ).

McAfee and Norton are known resource hogs. IMO I would unload McAfee (I did the same thing on a Toshiba Laptop for the same reason)and use Avast Free and Comodo Pro free firewall. If you need a real-time spyware prog, I have also been using Spyware Terminator, BUT, I don't install the toolbar that comes with it. Your PC will not get bogged down as much as with McAfee. The above are all free, there are also other Pay ones that will work fine too. |
