Cant open attachment

Hello, I try to open an attachment and get this message:

"This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the folder options control panel."

I haven't been able to follow those instructions, so I can't open the attachment.

(PLEASE ANSWER BY EMAIL, NOT SNAIL MAIL)

Configuration: Windows XP
Firefox 3.0

I have a Dell pc &yahhoo /at&t E-mail also out look express E-mail , I can't get my attachments that comes with my E-mails . HELP!!!!!!
