Mouse icon moving randomly

Hello,
I have an hp pavilion dv 9700 and sometimes the mouse icon can be seen to be moving here and there randomly as if it is mad and hence I cant use it I just switch it off manually but this is boring after some time and if anyone could help me please?

Configuration: Windows Vista
Firefox 3.0.4

Hi,
Well this is a common error occurring with touchpads on laptops and this usually happens when the pc is heating too much and unfortunately there’s nothing that you can do about it. But just one thing to point out is that why are you shutting down the laptop manually cant you use the shut down menu by using the keyboard?
