CD-Rom Drive

Hello,
OK heres the thing my cd rom drive is not working or functioning how it should be. I can see the problem but sad to say I don not know how to fix it. This problem is that when the cd rom drive is about to close it only closes about and inch then the black thing in the niddle that holds the cd rom in place for the eye reader getsin the way. I think its suppose to pop up just when the rom drive is almostclose but it pops up too early if anyone knows how to fix this problem please help me Thanx

How old is it? By what u describe, u r better off with a DVD-RW. CD-Roms only read cds. DVD-RWs read and write both CDs and DVDs. I would replace the drive. A word of advise, if u r gonna replace the drive. Make sure u replace it with one that can read/write 16x, not anything greater than that. They tend 2 b problematic.
