Thank you KEVDMD (above) for your thoughtful consideration in writing your post.
I was installing new memory (in Gateway PC) and thought the computer was shut down when it was actually in hibernation mode. I shut down when I was done and couldn't boot back up. Fan's were running and power was on, but nothing else.
Based on a few Google searches and subsequent forum discussions I came to the conclusion that I needed to reset the motherboard/bios via the pull battery method.
UNTIL I read kevdmd's post above.
Instead, I decided to pull the power chord in the back and drain all juice to the motherboard. After, I booted up and heard 3 beeps. Now i'm getting somewhere! I shut down again and ...VOILA! I couldn't be happier to hear Vista's startup theme!
Hope this helps anyone else with the same issue.
Cheers!
It abrupty died when we were watcing a program on media center and would not come back when the power button was pressed It was behaving very erratically, not even showing the BIOS spash screen most times. Reseating the cards, memory, unplugging the HDD and trying to boot off the CD, etc. did not help.
Resetting the motherboard coaxed it to go all the way to loading the OS and while doing so it again crashed. This indicated that the CPU may be overheating.
Took apart the cooling block mounted on top of the CPU, cleaned the old thermally conductive grease off and added a new layer of grease, replaced cooling block on CPU, reset the motherboard again per KevDMD. This time it started up and let me go through the BIOS and set up a warning for high CPU temp.
Vista started up, but did not load all the way through. Did a system restore and it now seems fine.
Merry Christmas!
I'm having the same issue but it did not resolve the problem after I hold the button for 30 sec., so what I should do?
1.everythings off
2.pressed power button
3.when com. turns on the fans aytomatically start to run
4. when i go to turn on the monitor, it says "no connection detected"
5. and the monitor immediatly go to STANDBY
but the fans are still running and power button is on too
What do?
