Windows Vista to XP Downgrading/Reformat?

bob666, on Wednesday January 9, 2008 05:35:47 PM
Hello,
I bought a new laptop with Windows Vista preinstalled but I don't want Vista at all. There is no data on the laptop as it is brand new. I would like Windows XP but couldn't find a new laptop with XP on it... so I got a Windows XP Home Edition disc and bring it to PC world so they can downgrade it for me. But I have been told it can't be done. Are they lying? What can I do?
Configuration: Windows Vista
Firefox 2.0.0.11

I don't think that they're lying on that one...

Downgrading would mean taking away newer files or changing them to older ones and Windows will not let you do that.

From the way I see it, I think that you could either, if you have another computer with XP on it, you could, with a computer cable, connect the two together and erase the laptop's hard drive completely, wipe it, and just transfer all of the files from that computer to your laptop, or you could insert the XP XP in your laptop and manually copy all of the files on the CD and then paste them in the main system folder, which would take some hours for the transfer to be complete, and then after that delete the Vista files from the laptop, then restart it, and it should then be the XP operating system.

I'm not 100% sure on both of these things, but I have tried them both and they both worked for me, but the case was a little different, I was upgrading.

If you need more help or info, please e-mail me at email removed and I'll try to help you the most that I can!

That was the stupidest post in the world!!! How are you going to delete an OS while using its network functionality?!!!! You will need to use an XP install disk to install the new OS. The only problem you will run into with this is the BIOS. Vista uses a BIOS unique to XP. I have heard that certain BIOSs cannot be downgraded from the Vista version. If that is the case you may be able to buy a new BIOS chip, not sure with a laptop. This has probably been said already, i was just responding to nerd's abhorrently ignorant post.

DO YOU REMEMBER THE LAST TIME YOUR LAPTOP WORKED OK? TAKE NOTE OF THE DATE. NOW TRY USING SYSTEM RESTORE TO GET YOUR LAPTOP BACK TO THE STATE IT WAS ON THE NOTED DATE. YOU CAN FIND SYSTEM RESTORE BY FOLLOWING THE SEQUENCE----start-----all programmes-----accessories--------system tools------ system restore.

GOODLUCK!!!!

Hi,
I had the same problem with my HP machine.
First check the WLAN device whether it is functioning. For checking the device goto
start menu->programs->device manager->network adapter->WLAN device.
If there is exlamatory mark or some red sign then it is not Functioning. U have to replace the device.
Try this

Also make sure your wireless is enabled when you go through the whole control panel deal. That could be why

Dear kalim,
u cannot install XP without sata drivers. These Drivers are provided at the time of installation(XP) thru Floopy Drive only by pressing F6. Pen drive will not work.
For me it works flawlessly.

Well you can always downgrade from windows Vista to XP but everything may not work fully without the correct drivers from what i have seen its hard to find xp drivers for a pc that comes with Vista I know Sony doesn't support other OS driver downloads on their new vista laptops I know HP you can download XP version drivers for a laptop or pc with vista pre in stalled im not sure about other brands.

I just got a HP Pavilion media center m8425f desktop pc. It has intel core 2 quad processor q6700. It comes pre loaded with Windows Vista. But i have heard many non-original software do not work in Vista due to its increased security features. I really like XP and would like to continue using XP. From a desktop perspective, is it easy to switch it to XP operating system. I know i would need some drivers and if anyone can help me find that i would greatly appreciate it. My email addy is fahmichoudhury@yahoo.com. Thanks.

you will need to download the SATA controller driver from
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/...
without that your laptop won't recognize your hard drive there
are 2 ways to solve this:
first one you'll need an external floppy drive save the sata driver on a floppy put your xp disk in and start the install at the very begining xp prompts you press F6 to install sata driver press that and it'll get the driver from the external floppy drive.
second way is to create an xp disk with the sata driver to achieve that you'll need a deployment software i use nlite
