Hello,
I have been working on this for a while now. I have a strong wireless connection to my network. But when I try to open a page on firefox it says I have no internet connection. I have followed all of the linksys adviser steps but continue to be stopped by "no internet connection". My roomates computer is connecting to the same network and working fine. I followed all of the steps from another forum "post http://en.kioskea.net/forum/affich 10833 modem is connected but not the internet " until tjmartineau, on Saturday 20 September 2008 à 18:55:40. I CAN open google on the firefox with an ip address but I CANNOT open anything with a regular address. The other post did not address the DNS issue. I have a weird packets recieved vs sent too : recieved: 2966 sent: 3661. What is wrong with my computer/internet/router/whatever???

Thanks,
Sean

ps: im on the roomates computer right now. (mac)

Configuration: Mac OS X
Firefox 3.0.1

Assuming you have Windows XP - go to START and Run and type in the following commands

ipconfig /releasel
ipconfig /all
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /renew

netsh int ip set dns

I tried the commands and the network still does not work. I could still access google under the ip address, but not through www.google.com. I'm not sure what else to do. I have even tried to use winsockxpfix.exe that i saw on other posts and it still won't work. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Sean

You might try theses commands

netsh int ip set dns
netsh winsock reset

OR you could get a new USB wireless adapter. That fixed things for me.

Thanks,
I tried those commands. My wireless adapter isn't usb, I will try that when I get a chance. But I did directly hook the computer up to the broadband for my cable internet and ensured it was using that connection. It still only had success with ip addresses. Is there anything else that could be wrong? Is there anything else i could attempt?

Thanks!

Still not working here. Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong with my computer? Again, the IP Address will allow me to access sites and ping them but all attempts to utilize regular www.google.com addresses have not panned out. Any ideas!?

Thanks,
Sean

1) Turn off your firewall
2) Open your "wireless adapater" properties, make sure your "TCP/IP properties" have "Automatically assigned by DHCP" everywhere
3) If the above steps didn't bring any light, then open "Status" for your "Wireless connection", write down your IP address (the first line), network mask, gateway address and DNS servers addresses
4) Disable your "wireless adapter", open its properties, change "TCP/IP properties" to the written down information, change the places of DNS server with written one, so that DNS1 will be DNS2 and DNS2 will be DNS1
5) Enable your "wireless adapter" and try google

Postback here your DNS addresses

Tried to work it out. Unfortunately same problem still persists.

Here’s the info:
IP address (the first line) 192.168.1.105 ,
network mask “subnet mask: 255.255.255.0”,
gateway address 192.168.1.1
DNS servers addresses 24.25.5.148, 24.25.5.147, 192.168.1.1
I tried all possible combinations of the addresses

Thanks,
Sean

Your DNS servers seems to be dead to me, try to use other public DNS servers, here is OpenDNS servers:
DNS1: 208.67.222.222
DNS2: 208.67.220.220

Here is how to plug them in:
1) Open your network connections
2) Right-click on your "Local area network" or "Wireless connection", whichever you use to connect to the Internet and choose "Disable", then click on its properties
3) Open "TCP/IP configuration"
4) Fill in you IP address as: 192.168.1.111
5) Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
6) Gateway's addess: 192.168.1.1
7) DNS primary: 208.67.222.222
8) DNS secondary: 208.67.220.220
9) Press Ok, quit from properties with saving changes, right click on your "LAN" or "WAN", whichever you edited, and choose "Enable", your internet must be working now

I just don't get it. I tried your steps and it still did not work. Again I could access utilizing the ip address but not the actual web site. In trying to think of anything else that could of caused it, I know that I was in the middle of trying to update windows about three weeks ago and that is when the problem began. Any other ideas out there?

Thanks,
Sean

Thank you so much. I was having trouble connecting to the internet even though I was connecting to my network fine. It wasn't the service pack problem for me. Inputing those DNS Server codes you provided fixed the problem right up. Thank you very much. I appreciate your follow through on the subject untill a resolution was reached.
