1. The most common problem when faced with a non-working keyboard is an improper connection. Try reconnecting your keyboard, restart your computer and see if that fixes it.
2. Turn off the system. Unplug the keyboard connect and inspect for any bent or broken pins. If the pins are bent, then it is possible to gently straighten them using the tip of a ball point pen or mechanical pencil. If the pins are broken, then replacement of the keyboard may be necessary.
3. Try updating the device driver. Visit the manufactures web site for the latest driver available for your keyboard make and model.
4. While at the manufactures web site. See if there are software patches or updates available for your keyboard. If there are, go ahead and install them as well as the updated driver.
5. If you are using a multi-media type keyboard, be sure to delete the software before installing any new drivers for this type of keyboard. Install the updated driver for the manufactures web site, then re-install the keyboard software. If any software updates or patches are available for your multi-media keyboard, install them at this time. Delete the keyboard software by using Add/Remove Programs (Start>> Control Panel>> Add/Remove Programs). If you receive a prompt asking if you would like to remove all shared files, answer "No to all". Then click OK.

Does your system recognize your keyboard while you boot?
(Try casting a glance on the screen for "Keyboard error' at the system start-up)

0. If so you have to repair it (rubrami281) or buy a new one.

1. If it is recognized by the system try going in the device manager (Right-click 'My computer", Proprieties,go on the Hardware tab and choose "Device Manager") and check if it's a software problem:
1.1. Find "Keyboards" in Device manager if not present, do step 0.
1.2. If there is a "keyboards" and it shows your keyboard model (ex: "Standard 101/102-Key or Natural PS/2 Keyboard") try right clicking and "Uninstal" it's driver, then reebooting.
1.3. Wait for Windows® to install the new hardware (Keyboard), or -if your keyboard came with a CD or diskette instal from there. Reeboot again to be sure.
1.4. Transfer all your money in this account: ROBCR045027.........:-j just kidding :P, that's all, hope it works.

I would check and see that the keyboard driver is ok.
Start..control panel...systems...hardware..
devise manager...keyboard. If yellow mark, right click and re install driver.

Hey I have the same problem on 2 of my computers. First is desktop and the other one is laptop. I also think it has nothing to do with drivers. I think it's a virus but every time I do a scan with different antivirus programs, it shows nothing. So, if anyone has a sollution to this (and by solution I dont mean driver checks, because my drivers are fine), please let me know. Thanks in advance.......

Check keyboard language .... perhaps change from American english to British standard

for my eeepc 900 it started acting wierd .... keyboard wouldn't allow me to type anything only had mouse use ..... keypress weren't working

Try deleting and changing user accounts .... all these are temp solutions ... enabling you to re install xp ...

Via usb cd rom ..... My keyboard problem didn't occur in ... Dos ..... so i figured it was a program related issue...

goodluck

This is a common problem that HP knows about.

Go to this website http://h10025.www1.hp.com/...
(Basically just turn off the computer, unplug the AC adapter it, take out the battery, hold the power button to the right for 30 seconds, put the battery back in, plug the AC adapter back in, turn it on).

This will make the keyboard type again. To prevent it from happening again, you have to download a driver from hp's drivers and downloads website and download the driver "WinFlash for HP Notebook System BIOS (for Notebooks with AMD Processors) - Microsoft Windows Vista-Based". http://www.hp.com/#Support

For HP Touchsmart Tx2Z, Vista 64-bit, the driver is located here:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/...

I would suggest going to start, then all programs, scroll up to accessories, then, accesibility, then, on-screen keyboard, download that, and if THAT doesn't work, than call a guy to fix your computer, or get a new one.

Looks like you were having an issue with key stokes in windows - it is not a problem with your driver, keyboard and you cirtainly do not need to pay a guy to fix your computer or buy a new one!!!

press
SHIFT+Ctrl+ALT+the WINDWOS flag all at the same time.

Hello People,

Would really appreciate if anyone could help me with this issue...

Lately I installed WoW an since then my laptop haven't been working correct.
It started in-game when i clicked something it wouldn't register or react to my clicking with the mouse..
So i tried minimizing WoW and suddenly I wasn't able to press the tasks in the taskbar and I was unable to close programs, (Mozilla, Messenger, Skype and other windowed programs) It simply wouldn't let me press the X in the corner of the window.
Although I was able to alt+tab into a new window and it sometimes it was possible to press one time, but then the window would freeze afterwards..
Most actions where frozen and the only way that I was really able to navigate was with the keyboard..

Also as a part of this malfunction of my mouse/touchpad I was not able to press the logon logo when vista starts. (The part where you can choose between fingerswipe or password logon) I would have to restart several times until it would let me press the logon logo.

Anyone who can identify this as a part of that HP problem mentioned at the top of the page?

Btw, I've got a HP Pavilion dv9500 Notebook
